CHARLIES ANGELS? 58 GO H O hd GO BOYS’ TRACK Despite strong performances from last year’s seniors, including Scott Ander¬ son, Brad Desmaris, Troy Johnson, and Marc Michaud, the 1985 Track team was held to a 6-6 season. Many individuals showed particular talent. Underclassmen such as David Brack¬ ett, Troy Dill, Casey Joy, and Scott Ritz set personal records. The 1986 team led by seniors Jon Comeau, Brad Cox, Tom Danahy, Greg Johnson, and Glenn Ritz should have a very success¬ ful season. Front Row: David Brackett, John Centeio, Mgr. Kristen Stearns, Scott Ritz, Wes Cushman. Middle: Troy Dill, Chris Trocchi, Marc Michaud, Brad Desmaris, Brad Cox, Dan Croteau, Terry Carr, Scott Anderson, Bill Greenwood, Back: Glenn Ritz, Troy Johnson, Greg Johnson, Tom Danahy, Jon Comeau, Josh Pickells, Chris Van Gelder, Casey Joy, Rick Curry, Coach Dan O’Leary. BOYS TRACK PAGES SPONSORED BY MUSCLE TRACK DAN O’LEARY “COMPLETE LAWN CARE” BASEBALL After finishing the regular season with a 16-4 record, the Varsity baseball team caught fire during the MIAA Baseball Tournament. First, the Rough Riders knocked off Abington 7-6 in extra innings as Neil Gomes singled in Brian Watts with the winning run. Next, the team came from behind in the late innings to beat East Bridgewater 7-4. Pugga Routhier matched his second tournament win with some clutch relief pitching. In the semi-finals. Dean Damon pitched a masterful game against Norton as the Rough Riders advanced to the finals with a 5-3 win. In the South Sectional final, Pugga Routhier’s pitching, some excellent defense (anchored by shortstop Jeff Handler), and Dean Damon’s 3 run home run, propelled the Rough Riders to their first ever South Sectional Baseball Championship as the team beat Norwell 8-4. In the EMass title game, Harwich lost a heart¬ breaking extra inning game to Bishop Fenwick, despite some clutch hitting by Evan Sokale. Despite the graduation of three outstanding seniors (Captain Steven Howard, John Jaworski and Tim Doherty), the team has high hopes for the 1986 season. Back row 1-r: Coach Charlie Horan, Tim Doherty, John Jaworski, Fred Ebbett, Jeff Handler, Pugga Routhier, Neil Gomes, Scott VanGelder, Liz Whitney, and Mia Hill (managers). Front row: Dean Damon, Evan Sokale, Dan Fennell, James Bartell, Steven Howard. BASEBALL PAGES SPONSORED BY: 62 HANDLER’S AUTO PARTS 63 GIRLS’ TRACK The 1985 Girls’ track team finished second in the Cape and Islands league standings. The year was highlighted by victories over Nauset and Cape Tech. Individual standouts included Cape cham¬ pions Mary Hannigan, Lissette Caminero, and Amy Anderson. Harwich High School records were established by Dawn DuDe- Voire and Darci Dubrueil. With several returning letter winners, the 1986 prospects look bright. The Rough Riders were led by Dennis Hoye and Dale Karras, but failed to qualify for the state finals by three strokes. Losing only one senior. CAPE COD CHRONICLE The 1985 Varsity Boys’ Soccer Team, led by tri-captains Evan Sokale, Eric Johnson, and Dean Damon posted an overall record of 5-9-4, 5-4-3 in the Cape and Islands League, good for third place. Harwich dominated everyone in the league with the exception of Chatham, which took 3 over¬ times, 130 minutes to beat us, and Nauset, ranked 1 in the state. Division II. We were short on experience but long on desire. Despite having 14 team members lacking varsity experience, we doubled our offensive scoring from a year ago, placed five players on the Cape and Islands All Star Team and came down to the one loss to Chatham of making the state tourna¬ ment for the second straight year. One of the high points of the season was tying New Bedford Yoke Tech, a team eight times our size, previously undefeated in their league. Many thanks to the eight seniors for their leadership, dedication and pride which made the 1985 soccer season a great success for Harwich High School. With eleven players returning in 1986 and a successful junior varsity season in 1985, Harwich soccer will definitely be a strong contender in the Cape and Islands League in 1986. Bottom Row: Amy Peninger, Julie Foster, Terry Ledgard, Terry Amidon, Mariah Ebbett. Harwich High School 1985-86 Girls Basketball Team, even though consisting of only two seniors, and losing 2 of their starting 5 games from last season, looks very promising. The team got started on the right foot by beating Nauset 39-38 in the seasons opener. This was the first time in 4 years that the Lady Rough Riders had beaten the Lady Warriors. The girls went on to win the Christmas tournament for the 3rd year in a row. The team seems to be a good prospect for the 85-86 C I Championship. Coach Ed Jaworski, who is very happy with his team and the depth of his bench, could even see his girls as competitors in the state. Harwich will be retiring 2 seniors this year, captain Terry Ledgard and N.J. transfer Tammy McQueen. Next years team will bring up a number of experienced players, consisting of Terry Amidon, Janis Berry, Lisa Dery, Ali Doherty, and Mariah Ebbett who will make for a successful season in 86-87. She’s actually working!! Too much caffeine Greg does the work . . . ... Steve gets the coffee! Dan’s in a bad mood - AGAIN!!! “We’ll be right back Dan.” After looking through this yearbook, you may be wondering just how many people it took to make this wonderful creation. Well believe it or not, only eleven people: ten worked on the yearbook while one made the coffee. One period a day for fourteen weeks Jon Comeau, Sheila Condon, Greg Johnson, Maris Pina, Chris Sharkey, Brad Cox, Audrey Roza, Jen Welsch, Britt Elwell, and Griselda Caminero devoted their time and effort to the yearbook. Many other members of our class also contributed their time to selling the ads. Our editors were Greg Johnson, Tracey Groswald, and Elizabeth Duggan. We would like to thank our advisor Dan O’Leary, and our photographers E.R. Lilley and Brad Cox. A special thanks should go out to Steve Gable for making our coffee, and also to Maxwell House. 115 r Babs Resendes Future Plans: College, Mar Be filthy rich.
