First of all, as a course it introduces the world of computers to students. Under the instruction of Mr. Larry Zabielski they work with the processing cycle. Although the school’s equipment is a little out¬ dated it offers the basics needed to understand the system. The second purpose of the system is for the admin¬ istration department. It serves many purposes within the school. A number of punch cards are designated to each student. Whenever a list of students are needed for a certain purpose the cards are processed through the system by the class and completed in final form as report cards, state attendance records, address labels, records cards, and a variety of other student lists. MEDIA COURSE IN SECOND YEAR The Media course offers to students an overview of the history and development of film, radio, and tele¬ vision, and their effect on the American society. Dur¬ ing the course, students write, produce, and direct their own radio and TV programs. The students also get an opportunity to visit a local newspaper, radio station, and television station. They get a behind the scene look at programs actually being produced. The course enables students to get a better under¬ standing of how and why we communicate and the mass media in today’s society. AUDITORIUM MEETS NEW CODE After a decade of continual use the Harwich High School auditorium was found to be lacking ventilation equipment required by the new state fire codes. Out of use last year, repairs were finally completed just in time for the senior play production this year and is now in full use. 25 . “-w v % ■ ilwilllil wmmi Tpr t 27 CAPE AND ISLANDS CHAMPS AGAIN!! The Harwich girl’s field hockey team completed another season as the undefeated Cape and Islands Field Hockey Champions. Harwich fielded an awe¬ some offense which scored 73 goals in fourteen league games. Juniors Pam Covert and Cindy Heap led the team and the league in scoring with 30 and 25 goals respectively. Senior Amy Macdonald was superb in goal, allowing, a mere 5 goals during league play. Six Harwich girls were named to the Cape and Islands All Star Team— seniors Karen Dunford and Amy Macdonald, along with juniors Pam Covert, Debbie Dolan, Kari Dolan and Cindy Heap. Two of the girls were named to the Boston Globe All- Star Team - Amy Macdonald and Cindy Heap. The Team advanced to the state tournament where they won the first game against Scituate 2 - 1. In the second game against Marshfield, they played well but lost 2 to 1. Coach Poore described this year’s team as “def¬ initely the best skilled team I’ve ever had.” With only two players on the squad graduating this year, Harwich should stay on top once again next year. It was a re¬ building season for coach Glenn Rose with only 1 1 re¬ turning lettermen. Seniors Lennie Miranda, Andy Mason, George Fer¬ reira, Peter Pena, Brad Chase, Mike McLCormick, Ken Fehrnstrom, and Mike Ross. Juniors Harry Vrountas, and Doug Martin, and one Sophomore Chris Fehrnstrom. Many first year players were also a great asset to the young team. Seniors John Warren handling the Goaltending duties and speedy Steve Gonzales who was second in scoring on the team behind Lennie Mi¬ randa. Juniors Jay Gomes and Joe Caliri added a punch to the offense and the defense. The team showed strong signs of being a champion¬ ship team in the beginning of the season, but due to the injuries sustained during the season it made the task very difficult. Despite the hardships the team tried its best and never gave up. Senior Lennie Miranda was voted to the Cape and Islands All-Star Team, having been the teams high scorer. Peter Pena received an award for best sports¬ manship. Moran, D. Martin, H. Vrontaus, J. Warren Two years ago, a new idea began in the athletic department, girls’ soccer. The idea was met with enthusiasm by both Mr. Dunbar and the girls. Mr. Dunbar was the first coach. This year after many delays, the team finally met in October, under the new coach Mr. Tyldesly. Although the girls did not have much time or space to practice they made up for it with desire. The girls, Martina Stabins, Pam Gonsalves, Laurie Lombard, Debbi Bonnatt, Sally Moran, Leslie Vasoncellos, and Stephanie DeFerie the goalie played very well, and the future of the program looks very bright. RIDERETTES TO ENTER STATE TOURNAMENT ONCE AGAIN The girls’ varsity basketball team is shooting for tourna¬ ments once again in 1978. With returning seniors Amy Macdonald, Susan Kozar, Cindy Reynolds, and Charlene “Chuckie” Peterson the team has an abundance of basket¬ ball skills. Rounding out the team are juniors Kari Dolan, Cindy Heap, Laura McCarthy, Dannette Hathaway, Mary Blute, Laurie Lombard, Debbie Bonnatt, and sophomore Adrienne Foote. The girls are off to one of their best seasons ever with the strenuous workouts and coaching of Larry “Mr. Z” Zabiel- ski. These practices have resulted in excellent dribbling, re¬ bounding, passing and shooting skills on the basketball court. The team has the spirit of champions off the floor as well. The boys had the personnel to do it, but the desire to win was lacking in some crucial games. The team was anything but consistent. They were able to defeat league power Nantucket early in the season but were also one of the few teams in the league to lose to Chatham. At home they were able to beat Nauset in the last few seconds of the game. But when they travelled to Nauset they lost by more than 40 points. The team played a very challeng¬ ing schedule, playing six non-league games including Division III State South Champions, Wareham. As the Cape and Islands League goes, it is very well balanced. Returning varsity members were Lenny Miranda, Frank Eldredge, Craig Rose, Ken Freidman, Peter Pena, Brad Chase, and Mike Le- Duc. New additions to the team were seniors Steve Gonzales, Ri¬ chard Barton, David Fernandes and Chip Nealy. The veteran team, led by Capt. Andy Mason, consisted of eight Seniors all of which had at least two years ex¬ perience. Mason enjoyed his best season leading the team in goals scored and assists with over 30 combined points and second overall in the Cape and Is¬ lands league. Other Seniors include veteran center Jim Thibert with a total of 12 points to date and his lineman Tom Howard who also had a very good sea¬ son. Second line saw George Ferreira, a tough right winger who earned over 21 points for the season. Mason centered the second line for the Harwich men¬ tor. The third line consisted of senior Greg Ballam in his third year of hockey, and John Connell, a transfer from the tech a year ago. The only Senior on the team who played defense was three-year veteran Mark Hammond who figur¬ ed in many key plays this past season. The goaltenders position for the team was filled by a pair of experienced lettermen, Senior John Warren who has played since his freshman year and John Reece in his third year of hockey. The Harwich coach was quotted as saying “It’s the best team I’ve had in my four years at Harwich.” The team finished with its best record overall and went to the states for the first time ever. It was a really good season and the team is already looking for¬ ward to next years success in the league. During the last six years, Cheryl Poore has led her teams to an impressive 78 wins and only 3 losses in league play. The team played excellent ball throughout the sea¬ son and would have been undefeated if they hadn’t been upset by Sandwich in the last league game. After completing a successful season with a 13 - 1 r ecord, the girls advanced to the state tournament where they were ranked one of the top teams. They played their first game against Wellsley, and with an exciting comeback, won 7 - 6. The team did not play its usual game against Plymouth Carver having lost 6 - 2 . The 1978 softball team, with its many returning let- termen, looks like the team to beat. Several Harwich girls set Cape and Islands (as well as Harwich) rec¬ ords at this very exciting meet. Rec¬ ords were set by: Nancy Bushey in 100 yard dash, Jayne thacher in the 220 as well as the high jump, Kim Gomes in the 440, Meg Foster the 880, Barbie Callahan in the high hurdles, and Leslie Vasconcellos in the javelin. Harwich’s record setting performance by Jayne Thacher, Les¬ lie Vasconcellos, Kim Gomes, and Meg Foster assured the girls of the championship. Jayne Thacher won the trophy as the meet’s Most Val¬ uable Performer. At the Awards Din¬ ner at the end of the season Meg Foster was chosen as the team’s Most Baluable Player. Coach Ralph Burns’ squad has an excellent chance to repeat as C I’s champs this year. Experience is pro¬ vided by returning seniors Nancy Bushey, Kim Gomes, Barbie Calla¬ han, Brenda Blakely, and Donna Burnham. They along with a fine corps of underclassmen should pro¬ vide the team with the depth and balance needed for a championship season. The final record was 5-2-1. It was the third consecutive year the boys’ finished second in the league. From the opener with D-Y, in which the team defeated their foes by 10 points, throughout the season, hopes were high of taking the title. Once again Nauset was the dominant team beating us twice. The team had many veterans and some good poten¬ tial. Mid-way through the season “Bumpy” Gonsalves broke his foot. His contributions were missed in the 220, the relay and the shot put. Ed Galvin had an out¬ standing final season. He was praised in the papers and broke the record in the triple jump. Juniors Ron Hubbard, J.G. Gomes, Tim Harrington, Rick Barton, Craig Rose, Peter, Rena, and Mike Mc¬ Cormick all had good seasons. They have worked hard and developed well for the 78 season. The past three years have primarily been building years for the team but with veteran seniors Andy Mason, Mike Barca, Mike Pina, Dan Callahan and the strong developing underclass¬ men; coach Steve Kot plans to have his first winning record at Harwich High. Harwich should pull through with one of the strongest teams in the league. Tennis is growing in popularity in society as well as high school sports and should offer a great deal of en¬ joyment and competition for the players and specta¬ tors alike. BACK ROW: Mike Barca, Andrew Kozar, Jimmy Callahan, Mike Pillsbury, coach - Steve Kot. FRONT ROW: Mike Pina, Rick Paulus, Andy Mason, Chris Hayes, Jonathan Thyng. BACK ROW: coach - George Kirschner, Mary Blute, Sue Noyes, Janet Loftus, Martina Stabins, Brenda Switzer, Maureen Hayes. FRONT ROW: Kim Chapin, Ann Dolan. GIRFS TENNIS The Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team ended last year’s season with a 9-4 record. The team, coached by Mr. Kirschner has been on the rise the last few years. They placed third in the Cape and Islands League last sea¬ son. Last year they played D-Y for the first time. Much to their surprise the girls beat them. The girls four losses came at the hands of Nauset, Martha’s Vine¬ yard, and Sandwich (twice). The team lost two very good senirs last year but they are hopeful of a winning season with their return¬ ing lettermen and ney players. 44 Last year the varsity baseball team had one of those “we should have done better” seasons. They certainly had the talent, but they just couldn’t put everything together. The team’s batting average was .306 which was on of the highest in the Cape and Islands League. Then why was their record only 7-7? The reason was that although they had the hitting a cham¬ pionship team needs they couldn’t quite master their defense. Without the breaks and the good plays at the right time a good offense can’t carry the team. For having only an average season the team showed some outstanding statistics. Three players made the Cape and Islands top five. Dusty Eldredge, a Pitcher, had a 1.13 ERA, Mike Ross a pitcher outfielder had a .440 batting average, and George Ferreira had a .400 batting average. Five players hit over .300: Tom DeMayo, Steve Gonzales, Harry Vrontaus, who led the team in RBI’s Daryle Lopes, and Joe Gilmette. The stats made them look like a championship team, but that defense held them back. This year the team is really psyched up for that championship and they can take it if they really want it. With Coach Ebbett’s fine ability and the team’s offensive power they should be able to blow any opponent right off the field. GETS A NEW FORM OF STUDENT GOVERNMENT This year Harwich High School developed a student council. A student council is a panel of students consisting of three representatives from grades nine through eleven and four representa¬ tives from grade twelve. The function of the stu¬ dent council is to conduct events to benefit all students or a public cause. Harwich High School has not had a student council since the school year of 1974-1975. This year the student council advisors are Mr. Russell Noyes and Mr. Frederick Ebbett. The student council has three main officers: Donna DeFerie is the President, Ken Fehrnstrom is the Vice- President and Holly Campbell is the Secretary- Treasurer. This year the Student Concil has organized a Toys for Tots program. A program for students to have their pictures taken with Santa Claus (Mr. Noyes) for the Cape Needy Fund. They have also been woridg on the problem of a smoking room so that the bathrooms will be clean for people who don’t smoke. This has been a problem for many years at HHS. The solution they have come up with is to allow smoking in four of the rest rooms without any interference from the faculty and not allow it in the other four bathrooms. Let’s hope this is a plan the school can live with. The student council has done well although it it is difficult to get established in its first year. : fiJr J iff! m JS ■ Jlfl ' ! j r; ! bbJ tjcM■ i f , ' si- Front Row: Bernie Manzoli, Donna DeFerie Second Row: Rene Gon¬ salves, Marjorie McCormick Third Row: Chris Metz, Grant L’Heureux Back Row: Tom Knott, Peter Kelley, Jim Rice We would like to take this space to thank our advisor Mr. Ralph Davis. Without whose continued help and support this book never could have been completed. He was always there when we needed help with the right answers and deserves much more credit than he is willing to accept. Dan Callahan Lisa Heap SOUNDINGS STAFF Organized in the spring of 1977 the staff of the ’78 Soundings elected Dan Callahan and Lisa Heap co¬ editors, Sue Kozar was elected business manager. The staff then began the tedious and complicated task of organizing and coordinating the materials which would give an accurate picture of life at Harwich High. This issue is the first to be published by the American Yearbook Co. A change which made it necessary for the staff to learn new techniques and procedures. We found that a book such as ours requires the continuous support of the teachers, administration and the students alike. Had it not been for their support our success would not have been possible. Some of us will long remember the hectic planning sessions, the layout problems and our many after school and weekend work sessions. The things we have learned and the experiences that we have had, feel will be of great benefit to us in the future. It wasn’t all fun, however, we had many problems, largely the result of our attempts to meet inflexible dead¬ lines, in spite of spotted and out of focus photos, missed literary assignments and other difficulties which forced the cancellation of planned ar¬ ticles. We have, however, tried our best to overcome these set¬ backs. We hope we have suc¬ ceeded, that is for you to judge. 55 L to R, Front to Back: Lisa Heap, Dan Callahan George Ferreira, Peter Pena, Pam Gonsalves, Cindy Reynolds, Carla Welsh Rol f Iben, Janet Loftus, Andy Mason, Mike Pina, Sue Coombs, Susan Noyes, Judy Coombes, Susan Kozar ■ UNDERCLASSMEN UNDERCLASSMEN CLASS OF 1981 Mr. Glenn Bryant, Class Advisor; Mark Ballam, President; Patricia Flynn, Vice- President; Karyn Coleman, Secretary; Charles Brown, Treasurer (Not Photographed) Wendy Allard Shawn Baker Sherril Baldwin Mark Ballam John Barber Charles Barret Michelle Barton Beth Bergeron Paul Blackmore Ed Bourke Kathy Brady Jay Brooks Jerry Brooks Charles Brown Stacy Cahoon Heather Campbell Ernest Capozzi Susan Chase Caryn Coleman Susan Collins Kathleen Colthart Kimberly Court Barbara Crandall Mike Crowley 58 Jean Curran Tom Curran Patricia Currey Timothy Dearborn Timothy Dion Perry Doucette Kevin Duggan Michael Dunford Jeff Dunakin Kathy Eldredge Penny Fennell Adam Ferreira Dianne Fitzgerald Thomas Gavigan Sharlene Gomes Andrea Gonsalves Patty Flynn Eddy Ford Mark Fredrickson Philip Greenwood Mora Hanlon Lisa Harpster Debra Havens Barbara Hayes Cheryl Heap Philip Holmes Sharon Holmes Kim Holt James Hunt Linda Hunt Amy Husband Michelle Iacovello Jon Jones Brad Kaplan Leah Kelly Peter Kelly Michael King Stephanie Knowles Margaret Knight Grant L’Hereux Joy Livramento Joyce Livramento Ross Martin Sue McCarthy Paul McCarthy Kathleen McBride Chris Metz Richard Mulcahy Ann Murphy Nancy Murphy Steven Murphy Laura Naylor Karyn Nelson Marie Norris Wynthrop Norsworthy Eric Noyes Maureen O’Donnell Natasha Osborne Maria Paterno Glen Perron Rusty Peterson Monica Pires Pamela Primeau Dan Reid Deanna Rubino Mary Shepherd Susan Small Marion Smith Bonnie Switzer Nina Thomas Terry Thomas Sandra Truscott Pat Vasconcellos Jacqueline Walker Maureen Walsh Roberta Warren William Watson Lyn Young FRESHMAN NOT PHOTOGRAPHED David Armstrong Kathy Naylor Sonja Chase Chris Small Jennifer Clapp Millicent Small Robert Ernst Gary Souza Leonard Flanigan Chris Stoltz Wade Jensen Arthur Tavano Peter Linnell Donald Marini Tom Tomaisian CLASS OF 1980 Adrienne Foote, Secretary; Michelle Chapin, Treasurer; Joe Thibert, Vice-President; Jim Learned, President; Mr. Kot, Advisor Michelle Arsenault Steven Baldwin Susan Barnes Joanne Barton Donna Bassett James Bourke Danny Brittain Kevin Brouillette Kevin Cahoon Jimmy Callahan Mike Campbell Michael Capozzi Michelle Chapin Peter Clausen John Coffin Laura Cotell Bill Crosby Lynn Curtice Mike DeDominicus Claire Doherty Ruth Dunne Chris Fehrnstrom Kevin Eldredge Dwayne Ennes 62 Coreen Fernandes Pam Fernandes Lynn Flanigan Adrienne Foote John Foster Nancy Gerstley William Giroux Joyce Gomes Amy Hall Barbara Hall Diane Hall Janine Hall Richard Hall Micheal Hamer Theresa Hanlon Sharon Hannigan Chris Hayes Steven Heap Chris Hemeon Sally Higgins John Hodgkins Susan Holmes Andrew Hunt Kathleen Kavanaugh George King Andrew Kozar James Learned John Loftus Robb Lovellette Karen Luby Walter Mason Warren Mazanec William McCarthy Marjorie McCormick Joanne McKenna Mike Moran Sally Moran Andrew O’Brien Pam O’Leary Mildred Osmun Chris Our Micheal Paterno 63 Robin Peterson Dusty Pina Micheal Reynolds Mark Ross Glen Roundsville Patricia Ryder Rhonda Ryder Jennifer Sawyer Peter Schicolone James Shea Eddy Silva Jana Sokale Michael Solimine Duane Souza Michelle Steegstra Elliot Swift Pam Sykes Joseph Thibert Holly Thistle Jonathan Thyng Melody Viera David Vagenas David Waters Elizabeth Yarbro Matthew Zalek 64 m- ' - ' T ' m- SOPHOMORES NOT PHOTOGRAPHED Brad Kelley Eric Allen Delmay Miranda Mary Brennan Susan Montiero Jennifer Chase Carl Pearson Brian Cove Terry Powers Clarence Fitzgerald Eileen Scannell Rene Gonsalves Janice Scheinler Jay Grose Robert Shea Joanne Hall Andrew Walker Diane Hemeon Stephanie Weekes Maureen Higgins Thomas Woodruff 65 CLASS OF 1979 Mr. Walter Thompson, Class Advisor; Danette Hathaway, Secretary; Rick Paulus, President; Cindy Heap, Treasurer; Kari Dolan, Vice-President. For their patience, direction and guidance the class of ’78 wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to Miss Farrell and Mr. O’- leary, our class advisors. % ‘78 BOTSCHAFTER AUS DEUTSCHLAND (AMBASSADOR FROM GERMANY) The Class of ’78 was very happy to have Rolf Iben as our AFS student this year. He comes from Heidenheim, a city in southern West Germany, located between Stuttgart and Munich. Heiden¬ heim is a landlocked community of 50,000 surrounded by woods and hills. Rolf has been living with the Wilkey family in West Harwich. He enjoys photography, skiing, bike riding, and formal dancing; especially the waltz. He played the cello in the school orchestra and was a member of the varsity soccer team. Rolf was also one of the photographers for the school newspaper and yearbook. Basically good natured, Rolf made many new friends during his stay here. He exclaimed, “I like to be kept active all the time. I hate to be hanging around doing nothing.” Rolf came from a very different school system than ours. He would normally have been a junior in our American system but must return to Germany and complete three more years of school. Admission to German high schools is by competitive examination where only qualified students can advance. When asked what he liked best about America Rolf answered, “I like the people in America because they are very open.” WK: 96 SENIOR FAVORITES Subject .........Government Book --—.-.-.-...-.---- 1984 Author.-...-.-......-.George Orwell T.V. Music was provided by The Great Estate and we ate and danced until midnight. Followng the Prom there was a class party at Thompson’s Field, complete with a bonfire. It was probably more crowded there than the Prom itself. For most of us, the night lasted long past sunrise the next day. The rest of the day was spent recuperating with some old and trusted friends (like Alka-Selt- zer and Pepto-Bismol). Most of us will remember that night for many years to come. 98 99 SENIOR PLAY A RECORD SUCCESS The Senior Play under the direction of Mr. Tisch- ler was a great success. This year’s play was the big¬ gest moneymaker ever to hit the Harwich stage. Like the class before us, we were forced to h ave many of our practices in the High School Library. The Auditorium had been found to be a fire hazard, therefore it was unfit for use until the proper vents were installed. Finally, after being promised several times that the Auditorium would be finished, the cast moved their practices from the crowded library to the spa¬ cious stage. As weeks passed the scenery grew from just a few folding chairs to a fully furnished room, thanks to generous donations from cooperative townspeople. Since there were so may people who helped to put on the play, there are too many to name. We would like to thank all those people who helped make our play the great success it was. Our greatest appreciation and thanks go to Mr. and Mrs. Tischler for without whose help and direc¬ tion this play, “George Washington Slept Here”, would not have been possible. Have another drink Uncle Stanley Uncle Stanley, you don’t know how much your money would mean to us right now. This boy just threw a dead skunk into my swimming-pool. “Sorry to see you go Mr. Fuller. ‘Be a long time ‘fore we find “Tedious work” another sucker to buy this place.” “Poor Raymond’s fainted. It must be the heat.” CAST Newton Fuller - John Warren Annabelle Fuller - J. This had been eagerly anticipated by most of us for we knew lit¬ tle of what lay ahead. In class meetings we met for the first time, our new advisors, Mr. O’Leary and Miss Farrell. We elected our first officers President Leslie Vasconcellos and Vice-President Donna DeFerie. In our school life everything fell into place and seemed in order. But outside there was chaos. Just a month earlier a President and Vice-President of the United States had resigned their offices. Mr. Nixon, as it turned out, had appointed his own succes¬ sor Gerald Ford. Mr. Ford, in turn appointed Nelson Rockefeller the new veep. Together they worked hard to restore some kind of dignity to those offices and be¬ came the first unelected Executives ever in the United States. Caused largely by an Arab oil embargo earlier that year the country was in the grips of a recession. There was widespread unemployment and increasing infla¬ tion. In the November elections there was a landslide vote for Democrats in Congress; a public reaction to the Watergate scandal. Here in Massachusetts Mi¬ chael Dukakis was elected Governor. As the year wore on we became more accustomed to the high school routine. Both boys and girls were wearing jeans and T-shirts with printed messages. Long hair styles were becoming shorter and we were listening to Elton John, Peter Frampton, Aerosmith and Kiss. In an effort to build a class treasury we were involved in a magazine sales campaign. Mr. Kot and Mr. Goldstein joined the faculty. Mr. Atwood missed several weeks of school that year with a serious illness. The following year as sophomores we had developed our habits and were more comfortable at HHS. We e- lected new class officers, Pres. Mike McCormick and V-P Ken Fehrnstrom. We raised more funds for our treasury through a successful candy sales campaign. During the summer between our sophomore and junior years the celebration of our nation’s Bicenten¬ nial was in full swing and reached its climax on its 200th birthday, July 4, 1976. Business celebrated our anniversary by bringing us bi-centennial T-shirts, coins, mugs, towels, glasses, napkins and other memorablia. It seemed as though everywhere you looked you saw red, white and blue - including streets and fire hydrants. When we returned to school in September we found that our auditorium, in use for thirteen years, had sud¬ denly been condemned by the Fire Dept, for lack of proper ventilation equipment. This forced the Class of ’77 to produce their Senior Play in the Elementary School gymnasium and caused several other inconven¬ iences throughout the school year. We elected new of¬ ficers, Pres. Kim Gomes and V. Pres. Donna DeFerie. In November Jimmy Carter, an unknown ex- govenor of Georgia, came out of nowhere to be elected President over Gerald Ford in a close race. His first of¬ ficial act was to pardon all Vietnam war draft dodgers. The election of a new president removed from Wash¬ ington the last of those even remotely involved in Watergate. The Korean influence peddling scandal was just heating up. That year our boy’s basketball team won the Cape and Islands Championship and went to the State Tournament for the first time since 1971. Our girl’s field hockey and softball teams were also league champions and have remained so ever since. The ma¬ jor social event was the Junior Prom held at the Wychemere Harbor Club on March 29th. For many, it did not end until noon the following day. Probably one of the most important personal accomplishments for a lot of us was getting our driver’s licenses and the new freedom that went with it. We entered our senior year with a great deal more confidence and sophistication than when we were in¬ coming Freshmen. Much had been happening to us and the world about us. In Washington problems in¬ cluded the energy crisis with huge balance of payment deficits caused by the high cost of importing oil, re¬ sulting inflation, unemployment, coal strikes, the resignation, in a storm of controversy, of Burt Lance, new Director of Budget and Mangement, and the un¬ rest in the Mid-East. At school we were beginning to think about applications to college and jobs for the fu¬ ture. Mr. Ellis was away on a leave of absence and he was replaced for the year by Mr. Burns. Our Senior Play, “George Washington Slept Here”, was produc¬ ed on schedule in the newly repaired auditorium, and we completed funding of our treasury with the sale of Christmas trees. Still wearing jeans and listening to Pink Floyd, Kiss, Aerosmith, Kansas, and James Tay¬ lor, we began to get ready to graduate in May. Our an¬ ticipation was somewhat dampened however by the realization that Lois Lindholm, one of our class mates, would not be able to graduate with us. Seriously injur¬ ed in an automobile accident in November she was hospitalized nearly all year. Most of us were looking forward to the challenge of higher education and making a place for ourselves in a world that we hope can be improved.
