Most of the complex situations we face involve other human beings. How can we satisfactori¬ ly deal with life ' s complexities involving our fellow men and still maintain a happy, healthy, and posi¬ tive attitude toward life? I believe that we can accomplish this by |ust being human. This simply means that we must always strive to treat all those with whom we come in contact with dignity, re¬ spect, tolerance, understanding, patience, and love. If we function as complete human beings, we should always have peace of mind. Russell K. Noy es Principal 7 i Superintendent Mr. Jesse J. Morgan is completing 45 years service in public school education. He came to our System, an experienced Administrator, in July 1957. A graduate of Dartmouth with an Ed.M. Degree from Harvard, he had served as principal in New Hamp¬ shire and held Superintendencies in Hinsdale, Monson, Auburn and Saugus, Massachusetts prior to com¬ ing to the Chatham-Harwich School Supervisory Union. For eleven and one-half years he held the position of Superintendent of the schools in Chatham and Harwich — since January 1969 in Harwich alone. Mr. Morgan carries membership in the Mass. Association of School Superintendents, The New England Superintendents ' Association and the American Association of School Administrators. He was for many years a member of Rotary Clubs and is now a member of the Central Cape Kiwanis Club. He is active in the work of the First Congregational Church of Harwich, having served on the Board of Trustees and as Moderator. Mr. Morgan would note among accomplishments during thirteen years with the local schools as most im¬ portant: School services expanded and additions of Clinical Speech, Remedial and Developmental Reading, School Adjustment Counselling, a complete new Curriculum Grades K-1 2; improvements of the school plant, and the planning and completion of the new Harwich Jr-Sr. High School. He served as Educational Consultant to the Building Committee on the new school construction program. 8 Paul Harrison President Harry . . . Mudden chops . . . red . . . Class President 4 years. The Harwich record left something to be desired, but the enthusiasm and high spirit on the team was a credit to the school and the coaching staff. We have had such stars as Cyd Zeigler, Craig Morris, and Dave Black- more leading, breaking the rec¬ ords and inspiring their team¬ mates on to victory. This year was no exception. Although Har¬ wich didn ' t take the champion¬ ship we did place high in the final standings. JIM NARDONE 81 Basketball 1970-71 Left to Right: Donna Gomes, Valorie Lopes, Pat Hennessey, Wendy Raneo — mgr., Noella Vagenas, Dayle Lawrence — capt., Mary Roderick — mgr., Claire Piersall, Leslie Hurst, Debbie Thayer, Valorie Vagenas, Winifred Peterson GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TEAM 1970-71 The girls ' basketball team this year was a success not in the terms of a winning season but in the terms of a closely knit group of girls that gave a 100% effort on the floor. They improved greatly as the season pro¬ gressed, especially in getting used to the new rules where more running was required of all the girls. The final record for the season was seven wins and eleven losses. The league record was five wins and seven losses, good enough for fourth place. We ended the season with a very gratifying win over Nauset, 29-28, which knocked them out of second place. The play of our seniors was outstanding, led by Dayle Lawrence, our captain, who scored I 86 points for the season. Mary Swanson was our starting forward who improved greatly throughout the season and did an excellent job. Claire Piersall was our starting center who controlled the backboards in all our games and without her we would have been lost. Noella Vagenas was our other starting guard who, in mid-sea¬ son, had a scoring slump but snapped out of it at Nantucket and scored very well for the rest of the season. Donna Gomes, the only underclassman on the starting five, improved greatly as she developed some confi¬ dence in herself. Donna is just a sophomore and we are looking forward to two more seasons with her. Debbie Thayer was our sixth girl who broke her hand early in the season and didn ' t play until the last two games of the year. Debbie stayed with the team even though unable to play and offered moral support all year. Pat Hennes¬ sey, Valorie Vagenas, Valorie Lopes, Winnie Peterson and Leslie Hurst were the other members of the varsity who will take over next year. 82 Compliments of PEMBERTON ' S TYPEWRITER SHOP Varsity Junior Varsity Harwich 31 Dennis Yarmouth 47 Harwich 9 Dennis-Yarmouth 28 Harwich 39 Falmouth 48 Harwich 23 Falmouth 17 Harwich 16 Barnstable 37 Harwich 19 Barnstable 28 Harwich 34 Bourne 54 Harwich 20 Bourne 21 Harwich 54 Wareham 46 Harwich 34 Wareham 17 Harwich 34 Chatham 35 Harwich 21 Chatham 1 1 Harwich 38 Martha ' s Vineyard 25 Harwich 23 Martha ' s Vineyard 17 Harwich 28 Nauset 35 Harwich 16 Provincetown 25 Harwich 23 Provincetown 37 Harwich 1 1 Nauset 27 Harwich 43 Nantucket 33 Harwich 15 Nauset 28 Harwich 22 Sandwich 43 Harwich 15 Provincetown 14 Harwich 45 Chatham 28 Harwich 14 Chatham 21 Harwich 33 Martha ' s Vineyard 40 Harwich 12 Martha ' s Vineyard 5 Harwich 21 Sandwich 48 Harwich 67 Nantucket 27 Harwich 37 Provincetown 41 Harwich 29 Nauset 28 Junior Varsity Left to Right: Donna Shipway, Leigh Noyes, Michelle Reddy, Pam Winston, Marion Peters, Jeanne Marion, Bonnie Monterio, Janey Bark¬ er, Marie Donovan Compliments of BRITO’S AUTO SERVICE LERNER ' S SHOPS — Cape Cod Ma 83 Cheer- Alice Lisa Lu Ann ALICE STINSON NANCY SOLOMINE LISA NICKERSON BARBARA BATES ELLEN SWANSON MOLLY HOLMES BONNIE COLEMAN JANE HAMMOND 84 leaders Lisa Nickerson Perry Houghton Joan Nardone Joan, Jane, Ellen, Nancy, Lisa, Alice 85 Band 1st Row, L. to R.: A.
