Not only does he smilingly undertake the various reconstruction jobs that we often make necessary, but he also finds time to untangle the boys' record book difficulties. FIRST ROI: Joan Baxter, Bonnie Cheuvront, Boneita Bowser, Pep Club This year's Pep Club, which has the duty of providing pep for Harveyville's Yellowjackets, sent into action its three cheerleaders clad in new gold and black uniforms. To raise money, the Pep Club in co-operation with the Kay-ettes sold food at the games. From this fund has come money to help secure not only cheerleaders' uniforms but to pay Pep Club fares to tournaments, to help out on the March of Dimes, and also to serve as a starter for next year's project-the securing of new jackets to make an even more peppy Pep Club. Whipple waving her baton furiously as she worked to create a band Q I after the band's three years of recess. Her 1, combined grade and high school band has performed 1 at all home basketball games. Glee Clubs The Glee Clubs under the direction of Mrs. Whipple and accompanied by Joan Baxter have proved a delightful musical experience for the Harveyville Yellowjackets. Their music has brought entertainment to the church groups, Womans' Club and to the com- munity through school programsx The combined Glee Clubs presented the operetta HChon1tav starring, Irene Walker as Chonita, Robert Chatham as Stefan, Dean Crumb ,J Chonita's father, Bonnie Cheuvront as Chonita's old nurse, and Jimmie Akers as Konrad. All of these were solo parts. The operetta was Feb- ruary 3. Harveyville High took part in the annual Spring Festival which was held in Alta Vista. March 17. The Kay ettes, a division of the Kansas State High School Activities Association, is an outstanding group which helps with world, communit and school service projects. Sloganu-Laugh, Love, Lift Motto-eToday for Tomorrow The Harveyville Kayettes are now four years old, and with the graduation of this year's Senior class the charter members will all have passed into the great country beyond. The Kay-ettes not only are a service group but spend much time on building character and developing the highest type of womanhood Thus living up to their motto. In the summer of 1949, Bonnie Cheuvront represented this group at Camp Horizon, the State Kay-ette Camp, located at Arkansas City, Kansas Shirley Davis, Pat Stevens, Hilde Jenssen, and Alice Zabel represented the group at the District Kayette Conference held at Osawotomie in December of 1949 This group has easily won the 1,000 and 2,000 point awards and are striving this year to win the final 3,000 point award. Officers' The F.F.A., in October, went to the American Royal at Kansas City where they watched the cattle being auctioned. To encourage better farming, this year's F.F.A. awarded one gilt to Jim Romine and one to Monty Haller. These two members will care for these gilts and return them plus one new gilt from each of the new litters. In mid September, the F.F.A. boys plowed the two acre patch back of the high school. In May they plan to plant this to corn. From this project the Future Farmers hope to make money to finance the trips to the stock judging events next Spring. Aside from helping buy new blue jackets for this year's eight officers, the F.F.A. has contributed to the March of Dimes and made a trip to Eskridge on John Deere Day. President .... . . '1. Harveyville High School entered its fourth season of six-man football under the leadership of Coach Murphy. The Yellowjackets, after a slow start, stormed back to win the season's last game. Every game that was played was done so in the absence of a player or so due to injury. This contributed greatly to our team's losses. They had lots of life and spark but just didn't have enough power to push the ball over the goal line. Prospects should be good for another year. The Yellowjacket squad boasted of their HBH team's accomplishments this year. In regular season play the HBH team won eleven and lost four. The Jackets had good reason for feeling proud, for the HBH team took first in the County League and the County Tournament. The HAH team, which took fourth in the County Tournament, won five and lost ten in regular season play. They won from Maple Hill, Alma, Alta Vista, Paxico, and Auburn. Some of Mr. Richards' F.F.A. mem- bers were in the cattle building watching the fast talking auction- eers auction off 15 steers when Jim Romine saw Mr. Lively come in escorted by a herd of cattle. Jim, realizing the value of a good neighbor policy among one's teachers, took off his hat and waved at Mr. Lively just as the auctioneer asked for a bid of 338.50 per hundred for the steers. The auctioneer seeing Jim's waving hat thought Jim to be a buyer and would have sold him the fifteen steers had Mr. Richards not saved the day by shouting, NNo!H It's said that Jim's sigh of relief could be heard as far away as the out- skirts of Harveyville. JoAnn Garinger wills her ways with the Romine boys to Bonnie Bowser, who doesn't do so badly herself. James Hotchkiss wills his big musclar build to puny Jack Lamb, who is so frail. Fred Rogers wills his loud, boisterous ways to Shirley Davis, because she is so quiet. Dale Romine wills his red hair to Dick Riggin, who seems to like red hair so much. Joan Smith leaves Jack Lamb to the Junior girls to fight over. Irene Walker wills one-half the glitter of her rhinestone to Pat Stevens whose ring finger could stand a little glitter. To the faculty we will our excess knowledge, so they may further their teaching careers.
