FRESHMAN INITIATION Among the various traditions and practices connected with our high school, the annual tradition of initiating the freshmen is probably the most outstanding. Of the memories that graduates take with them of high school days, one of the most important is freshman initiation. Each year at the beginning of the term a day is selected by the seniors to give the freshmen their opening course in high school education. It is only after this initiation that the freshmen actually become a part of the high school student body. The freshmen of 1944-45 were given their introduction to high school life on the first Friday of the school year. The male members of the class attended each class wearing dresses and other accessories. These glamorous boys went to classes with very giggly girls wearing overalls and large sized overshoes. All through the day and evening the freshmen were subject to the ridicule of the remainder of the school, and they furnished good entertainment for all. The freshmen took everything fn good spirits and probably had more fun than anyone else. As is also an annual tradition, the conclusion of the day's initiation is an all school party at which the freshmen are honored and accepted officially as high school students. ' 6

I We, the seniors of l945, wish to dedicate this annual to our principal and class sponsor,C.Il Dean. Mr. Dean has been the main spoke in our educational wheel for the last eight years. Through these years he has not only established himself as a fine teacher in the esteem of his students and the community but also as a guiding huiuence to each indivldualstudenm Not only has he been a great asset to the school but he has become a prominent character in the community life of Harveyville. He has built up a reputation as a leader in athletic movements and has had many successful teams in all lines of sports. He is respected for his frankness and straightforwardness in dealing with all matters. We take this qqmrtunity to express our deep appreciation for Mr. Dean's work in all fields and wish him success in the future. Hats off to Mr. Dean from the seniors of 1945. 8
