The next morning saw Dean Gann and Muddraker reporters sifting through the rubble. Muddraker photographers record the horror. Claremont (MDRKR1 - Of- ficials are still puzzlea by the sudden and inexplicable col- lapse of the newest dormitory at Harvey Mudd College. The new dorm, known to the students as New Dorm, was already a pile of rubble when residents of the other dorms awoke early Wednesday morn- ing. Rescue workers were call- ed in from Upland, but as of last night only one survivor had been founci. Searchers are looking for the other 118 residents of the dorm, all of whom are missing. The lone survivor was ASHMC president Ian McCut- cheon who was scooped out of the wreckage. As ne helped Dean of Students William Gann survey the wreckage, McCutcheon was mobbed oy Muddraker reporters but could not provide any information on the cause of the collapse: I was dreaming I was alone on a South Pacific island with . . . uh, anyway the next thing I knew two irosh were standing over me screaming ' We founa a body! We found a body! ' Investigators originally thought a piece of the Soviet satellite Cosmos 1402 demolished the dorm. They discarded this theory after be- ing told that the dented metal spnere they found was not a nuclear reactor but a dorm pet.
