DANIEL D. DA VIDS II Dan, The Kid, 3D Physics Bates Aeronautical Program, 1968-1971 Foot in Mouth Award, 1969 g Intramurals, 1968-1971' B.A,R,F,, 1969 Concert Choir, 1970-1971 Y,F,L,N,D,S,S, 81 T,I,, 1967-1970 Pep Band, 1967-1969 'QQ1 i Aha! the high school physics prof exclaimed as he read the news description of HMC's uplifting project, Now I see why you're going to Harvey Mudd! Armed with a 69? slide rule tThere's no reason anybody really needs anything fanciery Da.n left Honolulu and his dog to get an education in the big city, someday to save the world and reinstate motherhood and apple pie, Career aptitude tests having been totally ambiguous, Dean Hotchkiss advised, Have fun and just squeak by. Freshman year found Dan saving at least part of the world, Northeast Brazil to be exact, by being on the win- ning engineering proj ect. Rap sessions having branded Dan a pantheist, he roomed with Wendell sophomore year, perhaps to see who could convert who. The year's activities joyously included air- planes, football, car rallies, swimming, dates, and gen- eral wreckless abandon. Wondering why the school wasn't named Harvey Dirt, he returned for junior year to find an itinerant author in suitemate Mike, Help from tutor Neil yielded A's in math something that usually does not go hand in hand with air- planes. An illicit love affair with an airplane, choir, and senior research have kept senior year busy. And the 6935 slide rule proved perfectly adequate. Dan's vow never to take a course pass ffail has held, also. fThat one was a toughie at times.J His GPA's having risen exponentially through HMC, Dan has his big plans for the future, and will continue to try to uphold the image of the only example of all- American pure youth in a hundred mile radius. Grad- uate studies and work will see him hoping to go the opposite way from Scott Carpenter, though never to ad- vertise for F-310, for anyone from Harvey Mudd knows that balloons aren't for exhaust, but water fights.
