SENIOR AUTOGRAPHS STAFF ADMINISTRATION SCHOOL BOARD, left to right: Betty Liebelt, Betty English, Clerk; James Lewis, President; Marge Krohn, Ervin Boose, Not pictured- Arley Hinsz. This graphic should easily remind you of a familiar sight. Our principal Mr. Gordon Baumgartner is often seen just like this at his desk, always working. In addition to his many duties as a principal, Mr. Baumgartner is also the high school athletic director. This job involves scheduling and often re-scheduling ALL of the athletic events at our school. Often we think of the principal as the person who 'tells you off1 for 'just having a little fun,' but he also has many other tasks. The principal is responsible for setting up the clases to be offered, completing complex government forms, handling discipline problems by dealing with students, teachers and parents, and supervising teachers and all other personnel who work at the high school. So next time that you see Mr. Baumgartner at his desk like the man in the illustration, think of his difficult job of keeping everything running smoothly and effectively for over 350 people. If you have ever had a problem with setting up or changing your class schedule, then you will understand why we used a drawing of a man balancing classes to represent Mr. Chuck Nyberg, our schools, counselor. As you know students often have scheduling problems that they take to the counselor. It is his job to balance, juggle and rearrange the student's schedule to please both the student and the teachers involved. The counselor also provides advice to students in the areas of college choices, career guidance, scholarhsips, part-time work, and dealing with personal problems. In our case we are also lucky to have a counselor who is just fun to go in to have a chat with whether it be about one of the serious matters or just to talk and laugh. Maybe you think that a counselor is just for the seniors who are worried about college. If that is the case you are in store for a pleasant surprise when you step through the door marked Counselor at HHS. 35 THE FACULTY! Mr. Robert Bartz Science and Chemistry Mr. Bill Cahill Phy. There many hours of practice result in a great musical sound. They also sing at several concerts through the year and perform many vocal selections. The many hours of practice are worthwhile and rewarding. Har-Men Me'Ladies First row-Left to RightC. Wahl, R. Keller, D. Lucas, L. Overland, L. Helgrued, B. Venable, P. Hoffart, S. Mack, S. CHEERLEADERS The boys like to tease them that they are useless and sometimes other girls will mock them for jumping around and screaming, but the cheerleaders really are an asset to the athletic program at HHS. These girls have the dedication to practice several nights per wek, the spirit to boost our teams' morale, and the energy to keep on cheering no matter what the score may be. Often the football cheerleaders even need to resist the cold as they cheer on the team during the cold weather of late fall. Because of the qualities they possess, being a cheerleader in our school is an honored and treasured position. Often you will hear a senior cheerleader say that one of her most precious memories of HHS was cheering. FOOTBALL CHEERLEADERS 48 First row: (left to right) L. FitzGerald, L. Waldoch, P. Calheim Hornets Buzz The 1978-79 Hornet's Buzz staff really worked hard this past year, and spent many hours getting the paper together. They had to think of new ideas and write many new articles for the paper. The Hornet's Buzz covers every event that takes place in our school and these hours of hard work resulted in the production of a great paper. The Hornet's Buzz Staff should be commended for a job well done. 56 Annual Staff The Yearbook Staff was a very slow process this past year, due to lack of interest. There are quite a few people needed to do the work. An editor, photographer, advisor and staff members. All of these people work together to produce your annual. Many people think of the annual as just a book of pictures. There is a lot more than just pictures, there is a lot of hard work that goes into it. All the memories, laughter, and excitement are treasured in this book. Annual Staff Standing, Left-Right K. Krosbakken, J. Volk, M. Holje, K. Gunderson, J. Senger, J. Best, S. Lamm, J. Holzer, D. It was difficult to get outside to have practice and even more difficult to find a golf course in the state that was dry enough to play on. But the golfers just kept hoping and practicing. On May 12 the golfers finally attended a meet in Rugby where thy placed 4th out of 8 teams. Their next action came on May 14 at Minot where they placed 10th out of 15 teams. The golfers closed their brief season with a meet in New Rockford. 67 Row 1, left to right: T. Keller, K. Fronk, T. Baumgartner, D. Berg Row 2: L. Gunderson, P. Keller, K. Liebelt, D. Piatz, F. Saturday morning the real tournament excitement began with the basketball games and the Run, Dribble, Shoot competition. Harvey had 2 teams and 3 cheerleaders. The team was coached by Mr. Paul Joraanstad. Mrs. Joraanstaad and Mrs. Peggy Reynolds were in charge of the cheerleaders. Harvey was very proud of their second place victory and a good tournament. 75 AUTOGRAPHS By this point I am sure that you are questioning why there are so many pages left blank for autographs. There are a few reasons for this, but the major one is apathy. When the activities are held no one participates so the next ones are cancelled. When a space is reserved for these activities in the annual there is no change that can be made. Secondly there is apathy among people to do the work necessary to have an annual or a school newspaper. We need you to care about what happens in the school and then we need your interest in recording those events in one of our school's publications. 76 AUTOGRAPHS 'GRANDAD STEPS OUT’ The play was directed by Mr. Mack and the cast included: Julie Muscha, Jay Seibel, Becky Keller, Karla Schaan,Dale Braungale, Kandas Detling, Patty Gunderson, Carmen Filler, Dennis Harsch, Ken Prom, Colette Dethloff, Barb Nudell, and Kirk Johnson. 78 79 AWARDS NIGHT In the past Awards Night had been a time for seniors to come to the school and be rowdy, but some dignity has been added to the ceremony in the last two years. Now on awards Night the seniors are neatly dressed and they act more mature and worthy of the honors and recognition that is given at this ceremony. Some of the awards are given by organizations, such as the Alumni Award and the Eagles' Scholarships. Other honors are given by groups within the school, such as the outstanding ag student and the music awards. 80 BIG EVENTS HOMECOMING You Needed Me was the theme chosen for our 1978 Homecoming. Excitement and joy filled the entire week of Homecoming, especially at the coronation of our new queen, Joan Miller. The other Homecoming attendants and escorts were Kim Susag, Kim Hammagren, Dwight Schneibel, Mike Rust, and Kent Fronk. Overall Homecoming was a big success, and it will be remembered for many years to come. 82 83 84 MINI-DAY Mini-Day gives each student a change in routine. To take classes such as disco, fonduing or crafts. The committee that organized the day worked very hard to get everything set up. Working out a schedule, finding teachers, making booklets and the hassle of student registration. SNO-FEST Sno-fest in 1979 was a great success. The theme of the week was Lost Without Your Love . The week of Sno-fest was filled with events. Monday was coronation, Tuesday was volleyball. Wednesday was the six legged race and ping pong. Thursday no competition and Friday was tug-o-war and the banana eating contest. After the game everybody danced to Sounds Alive Disco which was enjoyed by all it's flashing lights and loud music. 86 87 PROM On April 28, on© of the biggest events of the year was held. It was the Junior-Senior Prom. The colors were blue, green, and gold. The start of the evening was the banquet. Julie Muscha welcomed every one and dedicated a special poem to the seniors. Laurina FitzGerald followed with the response which set our memories back to the weeks accompanying prom with the dates, the apparel and the breakfast which would follow prom. The Grand March started at 9:00 with a lot of couples participating. The theme song 'Come Sail Away was sung by Julie Barstad. The entire evening was very enjoyable and it is sure to be remembered for many years to come. 90 72nd Annual -Class Motto- Today Well Lived Makes Every Yesterday A Dream of Happiness and Every Tomorrow a Vision of Hope -Class Colors- Royal Blue and White -Class Flower- Long Stem Yellow Rose - Girls Short Stem Yellow Rose - Boys Cum Laude Julie Ann Barstad Cynthia Kay Dosch Laurina Lynn FitzGerald Kent Scott Fronk Kristy Lynn Krohn Sherrie Ann Lamm Lorraine Ann Otto Marilyn May Thompson Junior Honor Ushers Todd Baumgartner Larry Gunderson Jeff Michelson Ken Prom Junior Honor Marshals Laurel Fry Mary Holje Debbie Keller Robin Keller 92 Commencement Baccalaureate Sunday, May 20, 1979 3:00 p.in. Nudell 93 Graduation Being a senior sets a challenge for you and makes you feel that you have achieved something during your years of school. Seniors have a very difficult decision to make and only they can decide which road they will take. To some it means looking for a job and being self-supporting. For others it may be the end of your carefree days and taking on the responsibilities of marriage and supporting a family. But for most it means going on to college to further their education. When you become a senior you know you have accomplished something that is very important and its memories will always be with you. It's happiness knowing that you achieved something; but it is sad knowing that all your friends go in different directions. 94 THE END % 97 Despite the feeling they are all— 98 99 100 101 AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS v V % ' - ' • • H - • - • . . • « . - • • S • % ' • • t . « • - • X v 9 9 «• •• X V. • • 1 « - • % % V 9 • - w X f V r N. - • • 4 V % • «% - N % • X V •• • « • X • 9 - ' , V V •m X % X X % 9' X V V X «• • % % % V % X 0 « 0 9 • 4 v% • X « y — % f -X • ♦ 9 i «• •e- I 'W % • - «4 % % % V 1 V , . • • . %«, ■., - . ■' • • -. % • - '• - . , .. . , ,-_ , ' ' N - N . s - v., - . . - . r V m + 0 % -+ v A “• r « V - j t • i j
