English Variations On “The Raven” Once upon a daytime dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary. Over a quaint and curious volume of forgotten English texts. While I nodded nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of someone gently rapping, rapping on her desk. Tis only some teacher, I muttered, tapping at her desk. Only this and nothing more. Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken, Doubtless, said I, what she utters is only noun and verb. Caught from some unhappy preposition which followed by a short conjunction. Followed fast and followed faster till it ends in short disaster. Till the sentence of her hopes burdens students with a bore. While the teacher is still trying, trying to tackle sentence structure. Straight I wheeled a paper missile in front of her into the principal. Then, upon the hard seats sinking, I betook myself to thinking. Spanking unto hanging, thinking what my punishment has in store What this grim ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous teacher meant in croaking Nevermore This I sat engaged in guessing, but no idea expressing. To the Faul whose fiery eyes now burning into my bosom's core' This and more I sat explaining, with my head at ease reclining.
