The Lonetree Dam and Reservoir is to be constructed about 6 1 2 miles southwest of Harvey, at the headwaters of the Sheyenne River, providing water for the irrigation of land under the Missouri River Diversion Project. Much GROWTH is expected in the Harvey Area and Harvey Public Schools. Through this GROWTH, new wealth will come to the region. Harvey has been designated as the site for the construction headquarters for the Lonetree Dam and Reservoir. With the influx of many people, the Harvey School will continue to GROW. 2 LEFT: Crowded lunch line on way to cafeteria. BOT- TOM: First school building, completed in the 1920's. BELOW: New park facilities recently added to the West Side Park. 3 Harvey Public Library Showing The New Addition A new addition to the Harvey Public Library is being completed at the present time. In 1952 Harvey voted to support the library with a tax levy, but much of the new addition is paid for by generous donations of both money and labor. The Harvey Public Library grew out of the Harvey Community Book Shelf, which was established by the Sorosis Club in 1908. Many students of the Harvey Schools are frequent borrowers of books from the library. The GROWTH of the Harvey Public Library reflects the interest of the people of Harvey. The city of Harvey has had continuous GROWTH since it's establishment in 1894, when the Soo Line was built. It has become the leading retail center of a large area, growing to the present population of approximately 2500. The Harvey Public School has also experienced continual GROWTH since it's first graduating class ol 1907, con- sisting of 2 members compared with the class of 1969 which consists ol SO students. The school district has also grown; when it first began, it was known as the Common School District 38; then it reorganized to become known as the Special School District 38; and today it's called the Harvey Public School District 38. The first school consisted of the city of Harvey only, then in the 1940's, the district grew to contain 25 sections, com- pared with 384 sections today. The District operates 13 bus routes, which travel over 200,000 miles per year delivering students. The district plans to open it's new high school in the fall ol 1969. 6 7 School Board Berger Rodne, L. C. Loerch, Mrs. Rosella Harr, Willis Faul, Robert Brower, and Duane Akers. Area GROWTH and an increase in school enrollment, forced the Harvey Public School Board to plan for the opening of the new high school in the fall of 1969. Throughout the year the school board works earnestly for the welfare of the Harvey community, and to provide for the well-being of the students of the Harvey School.
