LITTLE STINGERS SET 15-3 RECORD The B squad finished a good season this year with a 15-3 record. Coached by Bob Meads they won the conference championship for the season. Taking first place in the CNDC tourney for the second year shows great athletic achievment. The loss with Carrington in the district tourney was a decisive one but coming back with flying colors the Hornets took third place. Six Srs., five Jrs., and one Soph, made up the squad. James Bienek was chosen captain for this year. Behind the boys success was Tom Gilman who did a splendid Job of coaching Let's get that tip 17 TRACK stars The conference meet at Fessenden was the main track event of the year. Ken Block was the highest individual scorer with 18 points. The Hornets were entered in the 100, 220, and UUO yard dashes, half mile, mile, weights, shot put, discus, javelin, and pole vault. The Hornets also participated in the senior day meet at Minot. Ken Block placed first in the high hurdles. Five events qualified for the state track meet. 18 20 Royal Festivities H i ghIi ght Oct 1957 Homecoming day dawned clear, but windy. This exciting day brought to a climax the hard work and time spent on the many colorful floats. At two p.m. the parade started down the street with the band in the lead. The queen cani- dates J. Seltvedt, L. Anderson, and J. Heitman were royally driven down the street in convertibles. J. Heitman was later crowned Homecoming ( ueen. The football men, as well as the fans, must have been stirred by the pep rally at the Y, the evening before, because a prcud, exuberant team marched off the field after winning a victory from the Velva Aggies 27-7« Later, students and teachers enioyed a program and dancing in the study hall. fcO'f A L Tr Who will it be? These students gather pictures and facts during the year to pro- duce our yearbook. They work at many d if- ferent jobs consisting of typing, layout, art, inking, photography, write - ups, and business. Fut ure Homemakers The activities of the F.H.A. are many and varied throughout the year. One of the main events was the F.H.A. Rally at Fessenden for the district officers. The girls worked hard on presenting a style show, giving a spaghetti supper as a bene- fit to the community and sending nut cups to the hospital. The activities of the F.F.A. are many and varied throughout the year. Through production projects, supervised farming and improvement projects the boys learn how to become better farmers for Amer- ica. For good work done in the chapter a golden award was presented to them at the winter show in Valley City. Other activities included the state conven- tion at Fargo and the district leader- ship at Maddock. Dennis Doctor is pres- ident of the organization with Garry Schmidt as vice president. End of the March Abgut IkO girls participated in the activities of phy ed night which was held on March 31, 1958. A good turn out witnessed the dif- ferent folk dances, marching, vol- leyball, ping-pong and different tumbling acts. Proceeds were $57 00. Get to work girls. READING HEADQUARTERS The librarians hare had a busy year in the library, checking out books and magazines; cataloging and mending books and making displays. This year there were 8716 books and UOO magazines cir- culated among the students: 19U books mended, 13li cataloged and UO displays put up on the various bulletin boards Carol Alveshere is president of the library staff, which includes Judy Wenz, Donna Boese, Phyllis Opdahl, Ardelle Stenson, Virginia Ulrich, Ivy Wangen, Carol Kanwischer, Jeri Wartner, Karen Button, Valerie Heer, Kristi Blanding, Susan Moser, Carolyn Paulson, Diane Springer, Barbara Anderson, Maxine Rauk, Patti Gilbreath, and Ilze Palms. Miss Haugaard is the librarian. 30 OUR MARCHING BAND SEVtRAL MUSICIANS RECE Under Mr. Novotny s direction the sixty band members put much time and effort into making music for Harvey High. The band gave a fall and spring concert and also a concert for the students. Many different instrumental solos and ensembles were entered at the music contest in Devils Lake, of which seven received V D HIGHEST RaTING a highly superior rating. The band got a superior rating. Eight entries were made in the state contest in Grand Forks, of which five received a highly superior rating. The Glee Club, also under Mr. Novotny s direction, did fine vocal work.
