Shortly thereafter the first student officers were elected. These were followed by the Student Council and the Student Court, founded in 1935. The executive branch of the government is composed of three seniors: Paul Shaw, presidentg Jesse lNIcCorry, vice-president: and Arlyne Heerlein, secretary. The legislative branch is the Student Council, composed of 28 members, elected by the classes. Gary Pykonen is the presi- dent of this active group. The faculty advisor is Mr. Layton Pollock. The Judicial arm is the Student Court. In the fall of each year, one new member is elected from the Freshman class, who will retain his position throughout his high school career. The Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes each choose one more candidate making a total of ten. Ben Park is the Chief Jus- tice this year and Mr. Dale Smith is the faculty advisor. These officers should be commended for the fine jobs they have done this past year. They have made democracy an actuality for all of us. Mr. Nunnni was formerly the direetor of the Geneva High School Band. HIC Harvey High School Band consists of sixty hard-working members from grades eight through twelve. During the football season the band marches and plays at all football games. It performs in an annual Spring Concert in addition to playing in many parades during the year and also takes part in the Lake Vonnty Band Festival and the District State Con- tests. Many band members participate in solo and ensemble programs during the year. Sev- eral of these enter State Contests and receive high ratings. Not to be forgotten is our drum major and seven majorettes who lead the band during football season. They have worked hard to attain their positions and to make the best pos- sible appearance. seventy-two SOLOISTS - ENSEMBLES lull I lll 4 r llurll n lm: lm 4: l ul llmum-r llunnn Ivmfx, llmlvf llllI.I, NI.x1-l4 lun .. 1' Z4-, .ww ,Lv 1- , ' 3--N M. 4 1- Q , lm. 4- , 41 N - I ll Ilu ll l'uxv XX lu lvll lynn Xlll nlmznlx, llivlx Flu-Nlvl' Xullllg. .lop-v l.nlI5. l':nxlll .lullluwuly .lmlll lx XX I l lm Nl vw lllu lu nl l ll l nm: 1--.X ,U , 4- V lull Iluxx he-Uluv lllllllvr, .ll-lm Vinlw Iinllum liuxx llulln .lwlmwm Ilxvll Nlureln-'lx Xl-nr- lv .lnnxxx Ilmuv- Xvwzll Il--nu.: IH-nfl. .U-ml nhl.-. l ll Ifxwnx llmm-1 Vmufi limm' Xrutn lr'-:uv I.:nll1f sevonw-lou it :YN Sk X. x X N Q Q Nw Q Q 1 P v X W ex 5 5 wk . 5 A - 535, ,.eQ,5,x, X wiki rx X Hwy Q' X xg W X N 'N . x - mb ,x 5,-5 ,Est gy Y ' Nffgiiw k wwf lx X N V j.g:.': X-X ...,. in t-5,3 Q .a:: 5 5 Sm 35 EN A 1 x f 'K ii N X is 'lyk 4 1 ? Remember the Paddyls l'rancc and the terrific Talent Show? Mem- bers of our class started early to display their dramatic talents in Our Girls . Our Sophomore year rolled around with everyone indnstriously selling Uhristmas cards, anticipating the Junior-Senior l'rom. 'l'hen we were on the next to the last step on our high school ladder. our Junior year. The new building program somewhat dis- rupted our school life, but alas and alack, the time arrived. Yes. in January of 1952, our class rings arrived and everyone glowed with pride. as now he felt he was someone. Our diligence in selling Christmas cards was rewarded hy the glistening occasion of the Junior-Senior Prom. All of u sudden, we were there!! VVe had waited for the day so long that when it came, we could hardly helievc we were Sl'1NIORS!!!! Our Senior - Get - Together was so successful, we considered it the hest. WX- were privileged to hold the first Home- coming Dance in our new gymnasium and our class continued to keep its high-ranking scholastic stamling. It's almost time for the Senior Ulass of 1953 to take its leave. St. Clair Street Where the Greyhounds Stop CLASS PROPHECY fContinued from page 16j To begin with, the orchestra, under the direction of the great conductor Robert Elwell, and in spite of a few wrong notes by the flutists Sharon Howard and Janet Pet- tit, struck up a loud, introductory theme and Pete Toth, the comedian you know, act- ting as master of ceremonies opened the show by having everyone rolling in the aisles, including Senator Donald Jackson and the Underworld King, Bradley Chapin. As soon as the clamor died down, Pete in- troduced the first act, which was Harry Fuhrman's acrobat troupe. You've heard of them all: Roger VViltrout, George Winfield, Arlyne Heerlein, and Shirley Johnson. Veterinarian Connie Hatcher, librarians Phyllis Crawford and Pat Eighmy and lady barber Dorothy Poxon really enjoyed that act. The next performance was that of those hep-cat tap dancers Ted VVeiker and Agnes VVyatt. l'hil Morrison fbasketballj, Joe Syetz and Ben Park ffootballj and Lloyd Linde- muth fbaseballj, prominent figures in the world of sports, really opened their eyes when the chorus line, headed by Norene Darosy, Nancy Koepf and Barb Reading, began the old, but well-loved can-can, Of course, such a show would not be com- pleted without a dramatic sketch starring the new dream-cream of the screen, Gary Pykonen and the scream-queen, the famous actress, Faye Gilmore. This tremendous plot, almost had Stomper Stone and Crusher Sutch, the notorious wrestlers, in tears. Up in the control booth, visible to the au- dience, was the wealthy producer, VVilliam Czerr along with his haggard director, Bud Geisler. Norman Baffer, president of the Baffer Super-Duper Salame Co. and sponsor of the show looked very relaxed and content- ed as he watched. Ina Irons, Georgianne Lipovich and Janet Beall each presented a vocal selection dur- ing the show. Their gowns were designed by Joyce Lilly and were from the elaborate Lakotas Dress Shoppe. There was a roping exhibition by the well- known roping and bull-whip artist, The Tall Texan, otherwise known as Paul Shaw. Eva Prugel actually brought her trained elephant which she put through its paces. Let's sec now, what was next? Oh yes!! Marionette operators, Margie Pocza and Joanne Pietila presented a very entertain- ing puppet show. Dave Skoog's jazz band, with Dick VVeiss featured on the clarinet, played a very classy selection. The singer for their band, Fran Musselman was absent because of a sore throat. Katrine Aho, concert pianist awed the audience with a beautiful rendition of Tschaikowsky's Concerto in B Flat Minor. QI thinkllj The famous scientist and mathematician, Arvel Bowyer, spieled a very educating talk on such a deep subject that few members of the audience really understood, including myself. Cameraman, Jim Rogers, Dick Bestor and George Balla were practically run ragged trying to keep up with the fast-Jnov- ing show. Light technicians, Daryl Maier, Dick Ramsey and Charles Fairbanks were really kept on their toes to be sure that the light- ing was right for each act. As the band began to play a soft, Iilting melody, Shirley Rubint, the world's cham- pion figure skater glided out onto the arti- ficial ice stage, set up by the Harrison Ar- tificial Ice Installation Co. After the brilliant exhibition of skating by Miss Rubint, Margie Barrett, the young, up-and-coming comedienne amused the audi- ence almost to the point of hysterics as only Margie can do. . Trapeze artists, Genevieve Check, Sally Lynch and Shirley Dolce thrilled the audi- ence with their breath-taking skill and dar- ing. The clowns of the act, Dick Otto and Bev Ames had the crowd frightened many times when they nearly slipped from their precarious perches. Mona Rae Clark and Nancy Tenkku en- tertained everyone with their numerous tricks and fancy steps on roller skates. During intermission, the master of cere- monies of the second half of the show, Roland Berry, introduced some of the celebrities who were present in the audience. Incidentally, the sponsor of this show was the Sabo Slippery Soap Co. one hundred twelve There were the nationally renowned col- umnists Barbara Briesemeistcr, Joan Hon- kala and Judy Greene, the slightly eccentric inventor, Dick VVarburton, educators, Pa- tricia Evans, Mary Dorsey and Carole Abrahamson, and even the millionaire play- boys, Bud Hawley and Jim Bevan. He also introduced Nellie Thompkins and Dorothy Meadows, famous for their scrump- tious recipes, orchestra leader, Jim Barton, shapely models and Conover cover girls, Mary Sue Punkar, Diane Landphair, Rita Bushey and Barbara Banda, and disc jockeys, Jesse McCorry and Sylvia Hor- vath, the latter being one of the first girls to go into the business. Boxers, Joe Brainard, Nick Cardina and Cleveland Hankton, TV news commentator Bob Jacobs, and quiz master Johnny Veyon were among the many notables present. Inez Brown, Iris Bloom and Gwen Davis, who collaborated to form a successful chil- dren's show, Roy Watson, Spanish inter- preter for the United Nations, world famous fmadmanj chemist, Richard Hogya, and one of the greatest women speakers of all time, Faith Johnson, completed the list of celebrities at the telethon. After intermission, thefirst act was the trained dogs and monkeys of Shirley Hodge and Mary Hatfield. , A brother and sister team, The Jacksons, really roused the crowd with a boisterous jitterbug. Adagio dancers, Bob Hilsher and Esther Katona also showed that they can dance ballroom style as well. Dennis Amos and Nancy Hayward fnow Mr. and Mrs., gave a spine-tingling per- formance on the high wire, while below Nancy Smith and Patty Parmo rode their trained horses bare-back and did several other tricks. Ventriloquists Margaret Takacs and Mar- ilyn Gum entertained the audience with their extraordinary skill. Martin The Great, bewildered the crowd with his slight-of-hand tricks and feats of magic. His assistants, Dolores Hoffman and Kathleen Palmer added some spice to the act. Margie Scott, Audrey Phillips and Josephine Cardina, all secretaries, got a big one hundred thirteen kick out of the proceedings and made it quite evident by their applause. Along this same line of talent, Philip Klebe, the steady-handed and steel-nerved knife-thrower had the audience gasping in its seats as he barely missed his helpers, Pat Rigby and Marie Pietila with flashing blades. Oh, by the wayg when I was there I saw some of my old friends. Let's see, there was Pat Bonner and Rita Flanagan, they'rc girls' athletic instructors now, Dolly llo- mano, owner of Dolly's Beauty Saloo-I mean Salon, Pat Flood and Barbara Nigh- man who are successful nurses, undertakcr Bill Popp and grocer, Don Piehota. There were some more too. Now who were they? Oh, yes! Ruth Rodstrom who is now a dietitian, salesclerk, Esther Robinson and waitress Peggy Szoka were quite defi- nitely present as could be determined by their enthusiastic applause after each act. Traveling salesman, Walter Mellor and for- tune-teller, Lucille Chiappone were quite conspicuous by their absence. Dick Rigo, a driver for the Baker Bus Lines and Gail Bucholtz, a truck driver for the Gunn Mov- ing Co. seemed to be enjoying the show tre- mendously. Getting back to the show a sparkling and graceful ballet performance was given by Sandra Chiappone and her famous troupe. Perhaps you know some of the members: Sally Justus, Mary Ann Jenkins and Mar- lene Muse. Opera stars, Lucia Braca and Dorothy Sziszak scree - I mean sang a beautiful se- lection. Oh, I almost forgot, I saw Governor Sal- minen and City Manager Bob Klenk at the theater. Gloria and Jane Lohr were there too. They're getting rich you know, on their string of race horses. The famous women detectives, Betty VVagner and Betty Snyder were also on hand. I think they were look- ing for someone ----------- Hmmmmmmm!!!!!! Better look out Mr. Chapin! Well, that was the show and do you see what I mean? Wasn't it really wonderful? Don't you wish you could have been there too? Nixon Funeral Home 176 N. State Street Pair1esvi11e, Ohio Walter R.
