The infants had graduated from the state called Babyhood and advanced to the most im- portant stage of their lite. They were lead by Director-President George Hobbs and his assistant Vice President Lightner with Secretary Horvath keep- ing record of their progress both scholastically and socially. Walter Wyant, as the property manager, played various roles. The second play, Sky Fodder was an impressive production. The setting and the lighting effects were appropriate backgrounds for the unusual play. On the Lot , with Bettie Kerr and Jack Pritchard in the leading roles, was the last one act for the year. James Hobbs, as the prop man, completed the cast. Virginia Mace presented a dramatic reading, lie , in this assembly. Opening the Mission Box , a humorous reading, was given by Julia Truby. Starting the i936 football season with a new all-Ameri- can coach, Harvey l-ligh's Red Raiders proved to be a verit- able power-house, sweeping nearly everything before them to tie for the Lake Shore League championship with Fairport. ln all fairness it must be said, however, that the hardy Hardingites from Fairport were more than a match for Coach Paul Moss' husky eleven. Once the Raiders fell before the attack of the Skippers in the league game and again in the annual exhibition Turkey Day feud battle, they could come off the field with nothing more than a scoreless tie. Coach Moss, because of his great reputation and wide range of experience, immediately became popular with the members of the squad. Although a few balked at his stern way of disciplining them, one by one they all fell in line and were able to comprise a formidable array of gridiron gladia- tors. Mr. Moss was one of Purdue's great football stars. For two years he was named an all-American end and after gradua- tion played professional football with the Pittsburgh team. l-le came here from St. Louis where he was teaching high school. As capable assistants Coach Moss had Athletic Director Roy George and Robert Dickey, both very popular with the players. The new grid mentor, Paul Moss, showed none of his tricks but won the game on straight football. HARVEY 39-WICKLIFFE 6 The Raiders again played good ball, showing only a few of their tricks in beating their small town neighbor. Wickliffe's only tally came in the early part of the fourth quarter. HARVEY 7-ASHTABULA HBR. 6 Harvey held the upper hand in the first league game although it was won by only one point. Luthanen plowed over the line for the lone tally in the third quarter. LINCOLN l3-HARVEY 6 Fighymg qgain,st a heavier team, Harvey repeatedly outfought the Lincolnites but fin- ally lost to them in the last two minutes. The Raiders completely outpointed their larger rivals. ' ' HARVEY 25-GENEVA O Despite a heavy rain, Harvey scored touchdowns in every quarter in a very uneven contest against Geneva. Being unable to use the air, the Raiders used brawn and chopped the opposing line to pieces. HARVEY 6-ASHTABULA 6 Playing very ragged ball, the Raiders barely escaped getting beaten by a weaker Ashtabula team. Harvey's team had several good chances to score but the breaks were against it. HARVEY 6--CONN EAUT 6 Giving its first poor showing of the year, Harvey was completely outplayed and only fate kept it from X f ' losing to the Trojans, The Raiders didn't use any COGCV1 MOSS i deceptive plays and were decidedly outpointed, The in action Trojans scored in the first quarter. l l 56 HARVEY I3-WILLOUGHBY O The Raiders again looked liked pennant winners instead ofa second rate team like they had against their last two oppo- nents. They experienced very little trouble in scoring against a strong Willoughby team, FAIRPORT l8iHARVEY I2 '- ' After playing one of the best games of the season, Harvey was finally nosed out by the Skippers, Both teams played , U S superb ball and it was just the breaks that counted Harvey out. By scoring a touchback the regulars suc- ceeded in nosing the veterans at the last moment. HARVEY O-FAIRPORT O The annual Turkey Day game was the best contest that Harvey played during the year. Both teams played faultless ball to prove that they should be co-champions. They had lost only one game and that was to a strong Collinwood team in the first game of the year by a score of 22-20. The six games that followed the Raiders won by large margins and were in very little danger any of the time. ln their second game with Fairport, the Raid- ers were playing for the Lake Shore League cham- pionship and Fairport was playing for a tie. Harvey took an early lead and was determined to beat the Skippers no matter what happened. The game was very close as the half ended with Fairport holding a small lead. The second half showed the superior team as the Raiders forged ahead and stay- cd there. The final score was 4l -25. The Raiders suffered a let down after they had won the championship and lost to Ashtabula in a very fast, close game by the score of 27-33. The Harvey High track team, at Anvil press time, had high hopes of winning the league meets and making it a clean sweep in all major sports this year. The team looked exceptionally good for it included some very good pros- pects in the field events who have developed since last season. Bolden appeared a certain winner in heaving the shot-put and throwing the discus. Nelson seemed to have a good chance to win some of the pole- vaulting honors. The relay aspirants were just about the same as last year and were expected to place well up in the meets. Individual places in run- ning were well represented and Coach George expected little trouble in these events. Coach George and his assistant, Coach Moss, believed that it was about time for Harvey to have a few track trophies and started out with that objec- tive in mind. She was attended by Josephine Kallay, Virginia Mace, and Evelyn Nelson. The fourth annual Homecoming was one of the colorful scenes of the year. Many of the alumni actors of Harvey High returned to their former lot for the occasion. 93 I I l qu.: Epitaplms Here lies Curley McBride For him lite held no terrors A gentleman born, a gentleman died, No hits, no runs, no errors. Here rests the body of Carney For him lite held many pleasures The light of his eye, was a tiny blond The most treasured of all his treasures. Here rests a man, with a heart of gold Who believed in decent hours His heart though gold, was mighty cold And his name was Francis Powers Here lies Carmelia Square Whose heart no man could hold on Who never did a wicked thing Nor ever enjoyed a good one. Here lies Madame Chalfin, Who died with a pain in her tum One day she choked, and down her throat Slid the son-of-a-gum. Wesley Tucker lies quite dead For him life was sad tis said His manner gentle, his voice sweet Could not this cruel life defeat. Epitaphs The lovely Miss, who lies here, is Doris A beautiful girl to be seen- She would be alive today, so they tell me If it weren't for that Column in her teens. Jo Kallay was ci dainty Miss Tis a shame she had to die like this But some one stole her heart And from this life she had to part. Bob Stevens rests in this plot of late Never more will his heart be a whirl For they've covered his love with a new V-8 His beautiful Poster Girl. The man who lies in this grave We will always remember the more Because even though wealthy and brave The WOLF was never chased from his door. Here lies Lois, our Queen Who countless hearts enraptured But many tried and many failed Before her hand was captured. In this spot lies Heinbaugh The likes again you'll never see He wouldn't admit he liked a girl, but- Can I help it if she loves me? 4Qs4:s4:s4Qs4:o4:o aaa-49u4:o4:seas4:o1s4Qo4Qo4Qo 4Qo4Qo4:s LYND'S THE MODERN BEAUTY SHOPPE 4:o4Qs4gv4Qo49v -sD04Qo4Qs4:v MOlH Sf.
