JANUARY, 1949 Lamont Library makes debut, sets new mark in functional design. 7,200 swarm in for first-day look. Academic probation abolished for juniors and seniors. Class of '49 names William J. Richard, Jr., First Mar- shal, Dan Ray and Dwight Nishimura Second and Third. Sextet wallops Dartmouth 8 to 5 in big upset at Hanover. Boyleston Professor Theodore Spencer dies of heart attack. WI-IRV holds longest musical orgy -207 hours of continuous broadcasting.

University announces plan to build new housing development at site of botanical gardens. Weeks quits, Student Council picks Bob Fischelis as new president. Dick Button retains world skating championship. Spring rioting by mob marks Lampoon's Secession from the civilized world. MARCH, 1949 Faculty announces abolishment of History 1. NSA's Purchase Cards go on sale in College. Buck calls for S75 jump in tuition for following year. Corporation gives memorial plaque final OK. Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Sherwood admits he once Hunked English A during Whithrop House talk. Crimson debaters out- talk Cambridge team for first time in three years, speaking against Was the American Revolution a Mistake? APRIL, 1949 John Munro picked as assistant to Provost Buck. Undergraduate takes Social Relations 114 hour exam as a prank, gets C plus although he had attended none of the lectures, done none of the reading, is a con- centrator in math. Varsity crew sweeps river over Princeton, Rutgers and M.l.T. in season opener. Harold J. Laski, speaking in the Law School Forum series, urges American socialistic labor party. Varsity crew trims M.l.T., B.U. in second meet. These things will not soon be forgotten by the members of the Class: The Emergency Egress in Sever, the Claverly biII- board, the Crimson Key, the World War I plaque, and, of course, the Owl. i-----wtf
