Iieltoy Allen, Jr. Charles A. Stewart HE Smoker Committee of the l reshman Class has this year followed the customs of former boards but has been successful in some noteworthy innovations. A short Smoker was held at the Harvard Union on February 26, the night before the Hockey game with Yale. VV. I. Nichols, ,Q6, Chairman of the Student Council Committee on Freshman Affairs, introduced the speakers who gave very brief talks, as the Hockey game immediately followed the smoker. Elliot Perkins, ,Q3, Assistant Dean of the Freshman Class, spoke on the Individ- ualism of Harvard. John Tudor, ,29, captain of the Hockey team, and Coach Dempsey followed, with short talks upon the importance of the impending clash with Yale. Then Richard K. Hawes, a Yale graduate, said a few words on the traditions of Yale and Harvard. The results of the class elections were announced. The Committee has planned for a final class gathering on May 5. It will start at seven o'clock in the Harvard Union. Hammered copper match boxes are to be distributed, and the Gold Coast Orchestra will furnish the music. A flash-light photograph of the smoker will be taken. As an interesting departure from the custom of having a few moving picture comedies, the Committee has arranged to have some men from 1'7'76 , this springis production of the Hasty Pudding Club, entertain with musical specialties. Instead of the usual cider and doughnuts, ginger ale, cakes, and sandwiches will be served. lQ9l

King Francis L. Spalding Justin D. Bowersock VVilliam W. Neff John D. Strong Morton Cole Henry H. Newell Jaquelin A. Swords Orton P. Jackson George S. Tiffany, Jr. HIS year the Entertainment Connnittee conceived the excellent idea of making the Freshman Night at the Pops into a dance as Well as an in- formal concert, and with this in mind arranged that the floor of Symphony Hall should be laid out in small group tables instead of the usual seating arrangement, and that after the concert a dance orchestra would take the floor. Negotiations Were- also carried on with a team of specialty dancers to vary the program a bit more. Unfortunately, when the committee took-its novel plan before the Regent for approval and executive sanction, it was informed that the college could not allow such an affair to take place, and it was forced to lay aside its carefully planned scheme. After considerable deliberation and the reviewing of several plans to take the place of the shattered one, the committee could arrive at no satisfactory conclusion and finally decided to disband and forego the Freshman Night for this year. MllCl1 credit and appreciation is due the committee for its tireless efforts to provide an entertainment, and it is to be much regretted that its work could not bear fruit, for these Pops ,' are one of the best ways of getting the class together and of arousing a unified spirit. l31l
