K. lVood HIS was the second year in which the Finance Committee was formed by appointment and not by competition. VVinslow Carlton was made Chair- man by the officers of the class and he immediately named Talbot Baker as Sub- Chairman and twenty other men as members of his committee. At a meeting on April 5. plans for the campaign were discussed and the drive got under way. It was hoped that the Bursar would help out by allowing the sum to be collected from each individual to be put on the regular college bill, but he disapproved of this method. As a result it was decided to have every man in the class seen per- sonally by the collectors and to obtain the money in that way. Receipts and pledges were printed, the latter to be used for men who were unable to pay at the time they were first asked. They simply signed one of these papers agreeing to pay on or before a certain date. As usual, the difficulty came when the question of collecting from those out- side the Freshman Dormitories was considered. It was decided to try reaching these men through the English A sections, and, although this proved successful to a certain extent it did not bring perfect results. There was still a rather large number of outsiders who had to be visited at their homes as a last resort. At the end of the first two weeks of the drive a little more than half of the total sum of SBQ800 had been turned in. Instead of collecting this year the entire amount necessary to run the class during its four years in college it was decided to ask for one or two smaller amounts at some future time. so that it would not seem too much of a burden to some men, coming all at once. VVe owe the Finance Committee considerable praise and credit for its efforts in carrying out the task of collecting from the large number in our class, for it is hard work, and a rather thankless job. f95l
