The 1929 Red Book UST as the policy of our predecessors has dictated, we have endeavored in this, the seventeenth Run BOOK, to record faithfully the occurrences of the past year. lve have tried to reveal in these pages the personality of our Class, its distinguishing features, and its accomplishments. Our task has not been easy, for the Class of 1929 is the largest in the history of the college and its activities have been accordingly numerous. If it had not been for the increased number of men who entered the Rl'1D BOOK competitions early in Nlarch, it is doubtful whether we could have produced this issue on schedule. However, the energy and willingness of these candidates have enabled us to keep pace with the growth of the Class, and, at the same time, have revealed to us the predominant char- acteristics of the men of 1999. It has been Olll' duty in editing the IRICD BOOK to portray satisfactorily their initiative and their energetic class spirit. VVith this in mind, we have added more pages, more photographs, more art cuts, and more departments than there have been in any previous number. WVe have attempted to make the directory of the class exact enough and complete enough to be used for reference in the future. The four departments have all cooperated closely to supply the various inno- vations and to get the book out early in the spring. VVe hope that the result of their work contains a record of the year sufficiently vivid to recall to the Class its first days at Harvard long after they have faded away. If we have done this adequately, if we have revealed the personality of the Class, if we have made the RED BOOK accurate and complete, then we have fulfilled our office. l17l'
