PREFACE With the pleasure that comes from having completed a task, the Editors present to the Class of 1916 the Red Book for its Freshman year. lt is not without some misgivings, however, that the book is presented, for we have had not only to perpetuate the progressive precedents set before us, but to strive to offer a fitting record and memento to a class which is deserving of far more than our efforts have produced. The Red Book's purpose is to record not alone Who's Who in 1916. It is to serve as a directory and first year recordg but most of all, as a means by which, and through Which, the class may preserve its unity. The leadership of Harvard 1916 in its sports and college activi- ties this first year has been greatly due to unified action and interest. If we succeed in helping the class to retain these attributes the Red Book will have served its purpose. With these forewords we present the Red Book to the Class. The Editors Wish to thank T. K. Richards, '15, and the Harvard Criinsozz for their kind assistance and suggestions. 8
