'Gig WALTER BARTON LEACH ROBERT ERNEST KEETON Prokssor of Law Professor Keeton was engaged in private practice in Houston, Texas, until the outbreak of World War II. From 1943 to 1945, he was Flag Secretary to Rear Admiral Mullinnix and Assistant Flag Secretary to Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. After the war, he resumed private practice, specializing in personal injury and insurance litigation. Prior to his appointment to the Law School faculty in 1954, he was an Associate Professor at Southern Methodist University. Mr. Keeton is Adviser to the Reporter on the Restatement of Torts Second. He has written Trial Tactics and Methods, Basic Insurance Law, and has co-edited Cases ana' Materz'als on the Law of Torts, Born: 19191 Clarksville, Texas. Story Professor of Law After graduating from the Law School, Professor Leach clerked for Mr. justice Holmes, and then practiced in Boston. In 1929, he WHS appointed to the faculty. Mr. Leach has contributed to the Restatement of Property and the American Law of Property. LOUIS LOSS Cromwell Prokssor of Law A graduate of the Yale Law School, Professor Loss was first associated with the legal staff of the Securities and Exchange Com- glgsgoli, and in 1948 became the Associate General Counsel of the ' He was Visiting Lecturer in Law at Yale from 1947 to 1952, and 111 the following year, became a member of the Harvard faculty. He was the draftsman of the Uniform Securities Act in 1956, and Chairman of the American Bar Association Committee on State Regulations of Securities. LOUIS LEVENTHAL JAFFE Byrne Professor o Administrative Law In 1936 the Professor began teaching at the University of Buffalo Law School and in 1948 became Dean. His article on Res Ipsa Loquitur Vindicated inaugurated the Buffalo Law Review. He was appointed to the Law School faculty in 1950 as Byrne Professor. Professor Jaffe is author of fudzcral Aspect of Foreign Relations, and coauthor of Cases and Matenals on Administrative Law, a subject on which he is currently writing a treatise. He practiced law in New York City for nine years before entering the service in 1942. During Army service he was a member of Mr. Justice Jackson's staff in the Nuremberg prosecution. He returned to his law firm in 1946, and was named Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard in 1947. His appointment as Professor of Law followed the next year. Professor Kaplan is co-author of Materz'als fora Basic Course in Civil Procedure and Copyright and Unfair Competition. MILTON KATZ Henry L. Stimson Prokssor of Law, Director of International Legal Studies, and Director of the International Program in Taxation In 1950-51, Professor Katz was United States Representative in Europe, with the rank of Ambassador, and as such, served as chief of the Marshall Plan in Europe. Concurrently, he was the senior American delegate to the United States Economic Commission for Europe. He was Associate Director of the Ford Foundation from 1951 to 1954, and is currently trustee or director of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the World Peace Foundation and the International Friendship League. Since 1939, when he joined the faculty, Mr. Katz has written Cases and Materials in Administrative Law, co-authored The Law of International Transactions and Relations, and edited Govern- ment Under Law and the Individual Born: 19073 New York, New York. JOHN MacARTHUR MAGUIRE Royal! Professor of Law, Emeritus Called back from retirement in 1961, Professor Maguire is cur- rently teaching Evidence. In addition to teaching, he is counsel with the Boston firm of Hale and Dorr. He first was appointed to the Law School faculty in 1923. During his tenure he was twice called to Washington as a consulting expert for the Treasury De- partment. He has been Legal Advisor to the American Association of Uni- versity Professors on problems of academic freedom and tenure, and he has worked on the Model Code of Evidence, the Income Tax Project of the American Law Institute and on the A.B.A. Committee on jurisprudence and Law Reform. K 16 L,K,.xX f' --,J Si-K JOHN HOWARD MANSFIELD Professor of Law Professor Mansfield was Shaw Travelling Fellow in History dur- ing 1952-53. After receiving his LL.B. from Harvard in 1956, he served for one year as law clerk to Mr. justice Traynor of the Su- preme Court of California, and in 1957, performed similar services for Mr. justice Frankfurter of the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Mansfield joined the Law School faculty as an Assistant Pro- fessor after his year of clerktng for Justice Frankfurter. In 1961, he received his appointment as Professor. ARTHUR TAYLOR von MEHREN Professor of Law At present Professor von Mehren is on leave in India under the auspices of the Ford Foundation. Before his appointment to the faculty in 1946, Professor von Mehren was law clerk to Judge Cal- vert Magruder. While in law school, he was an Editor of the Law Review, graduating in 1945. During 1956-57 he was a Fulbright Professor at the University of Tokyo. Professor von Mehren is on the Board of Editors of the American Journal of Comparative Law and is Vice President of the American Foreign Law Association.
