ERNEST JOSEPH BROWN Professor of Law Having practiced law for several years in Buffalo, Professor Brown turned to the academic world in 1937 by joining the faculty of the University of Buffalo Law School, where he ultimately be- came Assistant Dean. After serving in the Army during World War II, he came to the Law School as a Visiting Professor in 1946, and was appointed Professor on the staff the following year. With Professors Freund, Sutherland, and Howe, he is editor of a casebook on Constitutional Law, a course he teaches at the Law School along with Taxation, and a seminar in Taxation: Corporate Reorganizations and Distributions. A.B., 1927, Princeton, LL.B., 1931, Harvard. ll' CLARK BYSE Prokssor of Law Following his graduation from Wisconsin in 1938, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review, Professor Byse became Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Iowa. In 1940, he began a five year period of government and war service. Mr. Byse was named Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania in 1946, and Professor of Law two years later. He came to Harvard in 1957. Presently, he is a member of the Ad- ministrative Conference of the United States, and Counsel to the American Association of University Professors. He is co-author of Administrative Law Cases and Comments and Tenure z'n American Higher Educalion: Plans, Praciices, and the Law. Born: 1912, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. ANDREW JAMES CASNER Associale Dean and Weld Professor of Law Professor Casner is one of the nation's foremost authorities on Property Law. He has been Reporter and Adviser to the Restate- ment of Property, Reporter for the current American Law Institute project to draft a model estate and gift tax statute, Reporter for the Uniform Property Act, and Editor-in-Chief of the eight volume set of the American Law ofProperly. He is also a member of the A.B.A. Committee on Professional Ethics, Director of the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers, Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Law Depart- ment of Little, Brown 8z Company, editor of a casebook in Estate Planning, and co-author of a Property casebook, which will be long- remembered by most Harvard Law school students. HAROLD JOSEPH BERMAN Projkssor of Law Professor Berman returned to Harvard Law School after a year's leave of absence, in which he taught American Law at Moscow Uni- versity and studied Soviet Law at the Institute of State and the Acad- emy of Sciences. He teaches a course in Comparison of Soviet and American Law and many of his publications deal with this subject. Graduating from Yale Law School in 1947, he began teaching here in 1948 as a visiting professor. Active in promoting the teach- ing of law in the liberal arts curriculum, he has served as chairman of the Association of American Law Schools committee on this proj- ect. DEREK CURTIS BOK Prokssor of Law Professor Bok entered the Law School in 1951, after graduating fl'0m Stanford University. He served on the Board of Editors of the Law Review and received his LL.B. in 1954. After graduation, he spent one year in Paris as a Fullbright Scholar. While in Europe, he wrote a monograph, The Hrs! Three Years ofthe Schuman Plan, which was published as one of Princeton Uni- versity's Studies in International Finance. Following his year abroad, he entered military service, serving as an Assistant to the General Counsel in the Office of the Secretary of the Army. Since joining the faculty, Professor Bok has been teaching Labor L3-W, Antitrust Law, and a seminar in Labor Law. Born: 1930, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ROBERT BRAUCHER Prokssor of Law Aside from 15 years of teaching at the Law School, where he was Editor of the Law Review as a student, Professor Braucher has taught at the Harvard School of Business Administration for several years, and as a Fulbright Lecturer in japan in 1959. He is currently the Reporter for the Restatement of Contracts Sec- ond, the Coordinator for the revision of the Uniform Commercial Code, and has served on the Massachusetts Commission on Uni- form State Law since 1954. Professor Braucher has written Cases on Commercial Law, and has co-authored Introduction lo Commercial Law, and Commercial T ransaclions, a course he teaches in addition to Agency, the Icgal Profession, and a seminar in Commercial Law. After one year as an instructor here, he taught at the law schools of West Virginia and Duke with appointments as Visiting Professor at Yale and Chicago. After service as Assistant General Counsel for Price in the O.P.A., Professor Cavers rejoined the faculty, serving as Associate Dean from 1951 to 1959, and receiving the Fessenden chair in 1952. Last year, the Professor was a Consultant to the joint Committee on Atomic Energy.
