OLIVER SANFORD OLDMAN Proferror of Law and Direrfor of Training of the Izzlemational Program in Taxation Following his graduation from the Law School, Professor Old- man practiced in Buffalo and taught at the University of Buffalo Law School. Since 1955, when he returned to the Law School, he has been in charge of the training activities of the International Program in Taxation, and was recently appointed Director of the Program. In 1958, he was a member of the Commission to Study the Fiscal System of Venezuela, and in 1960, he and Professor Surrey con- ducted a Preliminary Survey of the Tax System of Argentina. Currently, Professor Oldman is teaching State and Local Taxa- tion, and a seminar in International Tax Research. Born: 1920, New York, New York. S.B., 1942, LL.B., 1953, Harvard. RICHARD R. POWELL Viritizzg Proferror of Law Professor Powell is the Emeritus Dwight Professor of Law at Columbia University, and is currently teaching both at Harvard and Boston College. After receiving his LLB. from Columbia in 1914, he entered private practice in Rochester, New York, for seven years, and joined the Columbia faculty in 1921, where he remained for forty years. The Professor has written a casebook on the law of Trusts, the course which he is conducting at the Law School, He has also authored the six volume set of Powell on Real Property, and many other books and articles. A.B. 1911, University of Rochester, A.M., 19125 LL.B., 1914, Columbia, ALBERT MARTIN SACKS Proferror of Law President of the Harvard Law Review and recipient of his I.L.B. magna cum laude, Professor Sacks was employed by Cravath, Swaine 84 Moore before clerking for the late Second Circuit Court of Appeals judge Augustus N. Hand in 1948-49. In the following year, Mr. Sacks clerked for Mr. Justice Frankfurter, joining the Washington, D. C. firm of Covington and Burling from 1950 to 1952, before returning to Harvard. The Professor was the Director of the Massachusetts Adminis- trative Pr0CCdL1r6 Study in 1953-54, and is currently the Associate Reporter to the Advisory Committee for Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. JOHN HOWARD MANSFIELD Proferror of Law Professor Mansfield was Shaw Travelling Fellow in History during 1952-53. After receiving his LL.B. from Harvard in 1956, he served for one year as law clerk to Mr. justice Traynor of the Supreme Court of California, and in 1957, performed similar Zervices for Mr. justice Frankfurter of the United States Supreme ourt. Mr. Mansfield joined the Law School faculty as an Assistant Professor after his year of clerking for justice Frankfurter. In 1961, he received his appointment as Professor. Currently, Mr. Mansfield is teaching courses in Evidence and Torts. Born: 1928, Morristown, New Jersey. A.B., 19523 LL.B., 1956, Harvard. JOHN THEODORE MCNAUGHTON Proferxor of Law Professor McNaughton is on leave of absence in 1961-62, while serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Arms Control. After his graduation from the Law School in 1948, he was a Rhodes scholar, served in the General Counsel's Ofhce of E.C.A. in Paris, and was editor and legal counsel of the Pekin flllinoisj Daily Timer. Since 1957, Mr. McNaughton has been a part-time Assistant District Attorney for the Northern District fMiddlesex Countyj of Massachusetts. The Professor has published Handbook of Marrarburellf Eri- derzre, with Professor Leach, Workbook in judicial Proof, Slate o. Hauplmamz, and 8 Wigmore, Eoidenre QMcNaughton rev. 19611. NORVAL RAMSDEN MORRIS Visiting Proferror of Law This marks Professor Morris' second appearance on the Harvard Law School faculty, as he was Ezra Ripley Thayer Teaching Fellow here in 1955-56. Currently, he is Bonython Professor and Dean of the Law School of the University of Adelaide, in South Australia. Mr. Morris is teaching Criminal Law, Torts, and a seminar on Human Rights and the Criminal Law. Aside from articles in American, English and Australian journals, he has written The Habitual Criminal. The Professor was Chairman of the Royal Commission on Capital Punishment in Ceylon in 1958-59, and was an Australian delegate to the U.N. Conferences on Human Rights and the Criminal Law. FRANK ERNEST ARNOLD SANDER Assistant Professor of Law Professor Sander began his legal career as a clerk, first for Chief judge Magruder, Court of Appeals, First Circuit, and then for Mr. justice Frankfurter, U. S. Supreme Court. His next fifteen months were spent with the Tax Division of the De artment of justice. The Professor also practiced with a Boston firm for three years before joining the Law School faculty in 1959. Currently, Mr. Sander is Consultant to the Massachusetts Bar Committee on the Judiciary, and a member of the Advisory Com- mittee to the Massachusetts Inheritance Tax Bureau. He is currently teaching courses in Taxation and Family Law, and a seminar on Taxation: Current Issues and Problems. Born: 19273 Stuttgart, Germany. A.B., 19493 LL.B., 1952, Harvard. LOUIS B. SOHN Bemir Professor of International Law and john Harvey Gregory Lecturer on World Organization Professor Sohn is presently on a one year leave of absence, while serving as a consultant to the State Department on matters of dis- armament, and the establishment of the new Disarmament Agency. The Professor joined the faculty in 1946, after six years as Research Associate to judge Hudson of the Permanent Court of International justice. He participated in the San Francisco Con- ference which drafted the United Nations Charter, and served as a legal officer in the U.N. Secretariat in 1950 and 1951. Among Professor Sohn's published works are Carer on World Law, Carer on United Nation: Law, and World Peace Through World Law. Born: 1914, Lwow, Poland. LL.B.,, Dipl. SUTHERLAND Buney Proferror of Law Aside from 1927-28, when he was legal secretary to Mr. justice Holmes, Professor Sutherland practiced law in Rochester, New York, from 1926 until 1941. He served in the U. S. Army from the latter year until 1945, receiving the Bronze Star and numerous citations. Before becoming Professor of Law at Harvard in 1950, he taught at Cornell. In 1956, Professor Sutherland held a Ful- bright lectureship at Oxford, He edited Government Under Law, the published proceedings of the john Marshall Bicentennial at Harvard, of which he was chairman, and his Rundell Lectures at Wisconsin in 1955 were published as The Law and One Man Among Many.
