MILTON KATZ Henry L. Stirnron Proferror of Law, Director of International Legal Stndier, and Direetor of the International Program in Taxation. In 1950-51, Professor Katz was United States Representative in Europe, with the rank of Ambassador, and as such, served as chief of the Marshall Plan in Europe. Concurrently, he was the senior American delegate to the United States Economic Commission for Europe. He was Associate Director of the Ford Foundation from 1951 to 1954, and is currently trustee or director of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the World Peace Foundation and the International Friendship League. Since 1939, when he joined the faculty, Mr. Katz has written Carer and Materialr in Adrniniitrative Law, co-authored Tloe Law of International Transactions and Relations, and edited Government Under Law and the Individual. ROBERT ERNEST KEETON Proferior of Law Professor Keeton was engaged in private practice in Houston, Texas, until the outbreak of World War II. From 1945 to 1945, he was Flag Secretary to Rear Admiral Mullinnix and Assistant Flag Secretary to Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. After the war, he resumed private practice, specializing in per- sonal injury and insurance litigation. Prior to his appointment to the Law School faculty in 1954, he was an Associate Professor at Southern Methodist University. Mr. Keeton is Adviser to the Reporter on the Restatement of Torts Second. He has written Trial Taetirr and Methods, Baile Infuranre Law, and has co-edited Carer and Material: on the Lau' of Torti. He is on leave for the first semester, 1961-62. WALTER BARTON LEACH Story Professor of Law After graduating from the Law School, Professor Leach clerked for Mr. justice Holmes, and then practiced in Boston. In 1929, he was appointed to the faculty. He has also taught at Oxford, the University of Colorado, and Northeastern University. The Pro- fessor is a Brigadier General, USAFR Qretj, and a Consultant to the Air Force. Mr. Leach has contributed to the Restatement of Pro erty and the American Law of Property. Among his numerous puglications are The Rule A gainft Per etuitier, Care: and Text on Willa, Carer on Matraehnrettr Law o Evidence, and the co-authorship of Future Interertf and Ertate Planning and Carer and Text on Property. WILLIAM ORR HUIE Visiting Professor of Law Professor Huie, who came to Harvard this year through the courtesy of the University of Texas, is appropriately teaching a course in Oil and Gas, as well as two sections of Trusts. The Pro- fessor has been teaching at the Texas School of Law since 1936, and was Assistant Dean from 1946 until 1948. In 1939-40, he was a Research Fellow at Harvard Law School. Aside from serving for a number of years on the Texas State Bar Committee on Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law, Mr. Huie has done a great deal of writing, authoring Texas Cases on Marital Rights, Casebooks on Texas Land Limitations, Texas Public Lands, Texas Sfrppleinent on Administration of Estates, and co-authoring Cases on Oil and Gas in 1960. LOUIS LEVENTHAL JAFFE Byrne Professor of Administrative Law In 1928, Professor Jaffe graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude. After general practice and graduate study, he served as law clerk to Mr. Justice Brandeis in 1933, and was an attorney with the NLRB through 1935. In 1936, the Professor began teaching at the University of Buffalo Law School, and in 1948 became Dean. His article on Res Ipsa Loquitur Vindicated inaugurated the Buffalo Law Review. He was appointed to the Law School faculty in 1950 as Byrne Professor. Professor Jaffe is author of judicial Aspert of Foreign Relations, and co-author of Cases ana' Materials on Administrative Law, a subject on which he is currently writing a treatise. Born: 19053 Seattle, Washington. A.B., 1925, John Hopkins, LL.B., 19283 S.J.D., 1932, Harvard. BENJAMIN KAPLAN Royall Professor of Law Professor Kaplan is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review from 1931 to 1933. He practiced law in New York City for nine years before entering the service in 1942. During Army service he was a member of Mr. justice Jackson's staff in the Nuremberg prosecution. He returned to hiS 12W firm in 1946, and was named Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard in 1947. His appointment as Professor of Law followed the next year. Professor Kaplan is co-author of Materials for a Basic Course in Civil Proredzrre and Copyright and Unfair C ompetition. He is cur- rently teaching courses in Civil Procedure, Copyright and Unfair Competition, and a seminar in Equitable Remedies. Born: 19113 New York, New York. JAMES KENNETH LOGAN Ezra Ripley Tlmyer Teaching Fellow Only six years after his graduation from the Law School, Pro- fessor Logan has returned to Harvard for one year as the Thayer Teaching Fellow by way of the University of Kansas, where Mr. Logan is Dean of the Law School. The Professor clerked for judge Walter A. Huxman, U, S. Court of Appeals, 10th Circuit in 1955-56, and was associated with Gibson, Dunn 8: Crutcher in Los Angeles before joining the Kansas faculty. In 1961, Professor Logan and Professor Leach collaborated on Iifzlfzre Ifzfererfr :md Ermle Plfrmzing, and he has also penned law review articles in the Corporations, Property, and Estate Planning areas. Professor of Law, Emerilur Called back from retirement this year, Professor Maguire taught the course in Evidence during the tirst semester. He first was appointed to the Law School faculty in 1923. During his tenure, he was twice called to Washington as a consulting expert for the United States Treasury Department. He has been Legal Advisor to the American Association of Uni- versity Professors on problems of academic freedom and tenure, and he has served on the Model Code of Evidence, the Income Tax Project of the American Law Institute, and the A.B.A. Committee Reform.
