PAUL ABRAHAM FREUND Carl M. Loeb Ufziwerrily Profermr After receiving his S.J.D, from Harvard in 1932, Professor Freund clerked for Mr. justice Brandeis. From 1935 through 1939, he was in the Ofhce of the Solicitor General and also served as Special Assistant to the Attorney General. Mr. Freund joined the faculty in 1959, He held the Charles Stebbins Fairchild chair from 1950 until 1957, and the Royall chair in 1957-58, at which time he was awarded a University Professorship. CHARLES FRIED Arrirlmzt Proferror of Law Since graduating from Columbia Law School in 1960, Professor Fried has already written an article published in the American journal of Legal History, and a review which was published by the Columbia Law Review. Upon leaving Columbia, Professor Fried clerked for Mr, justice john Marshall Harlan of the Supreme Court of the United States, and u on termination of -the clerkship, joined the Harvard Law School faculty as an Assistant Professor. LON LUVOIS FULLER Carler Proferror of General jurirpruderzce Professor Fuller has been in the field of legal instruction since 1926. He had been associated with the faculties of Duke, Orgeon and Illinois before joining the Harvard staff in 1939. Mr. Fuller was Chairman of the Committee on Legal Education at Harvard from 1944 to 1947, In 1948, he received the Carter chair. Presently, he is the President of the American Society for Political and Legal Philosophy. The Professor has been the editor of Bruin' Conlmcl Law, The Problem: of furirprzzdenre, and has authored The Law in Quert of Itfelf, and the famed Law Review article, The Case of the Speluncean Explorers , which has appeared in ten anthologies, and has been translated into Spanish and Arabic. CHARLES FAIRMAN Proferror of Law Professor Fairman has taught courses in law, government and political science at Pomona College, Wfilliams College, Stanford University, Washington University fat St. Louisj and Harvard. A participant in both World Wars, he served as a Colonel in the judge Advocate General's Ofhce from 1942 through 1946. Professor Fairman's published works include The Law of Martial Rifle, Mr. fffrlire Miller and fbe Supreme Court, 1862-1890, and Amerimlz COIZJ'f.iflllf0IZdl Decisions. The Professor is on' leave of absence while working on a history of the Supreme Court from 1864-1888, under the Permanent Committee for the Oliver Wendell Holmes Devise. Born: 18973 Alton, Illinois. RICHARD HINCKLEY FIELD Proferror of Law After graduating magna cum laude from the Law School in 1929, Professor Field engaged in private practice in Boston until World War Il, when he became General Counsel for the Olice of Price Administration. He returned to the Law School in 1946 as a member of the faculty. From 1957 until 1959, he served as Reporter for the Rules Advisory Committee in Maine. Together with Professor Kaplan, he has edited a casebook on Civil Procedure, and has also been the co-author of Maine Civil Practice. Mr. Field is on leave for the first semester, 1961-62, but will conduct a course in Trial Practice during the second semester, The Professor also teaches Civil Procedure and Evidence. ROGER FISHER Profesror of Law Professor Fisher spent two years in Paris as an Assistant to the General Counsel of the European headquarters of the Economic Cooperative Administration after receiving his LL.B. in 1948. From 1950 through 1956, he practiced with Covington 8: Burling in Washington, D. C., working largely in the international field. Professor Fisher then joined the Department of Justice as an Assistant to the Solicitor General before coming to the Law School staff in 1958, Mr. Fisher is currently a member of the Executive Committee, American Society of International Law, and the Commission to Study the Organization of Peace. SHELDON GLUECK Rorcoe Ponnd Proferror of Law Professor Glueck has been Adviser on the American Law Institute's Youth Correction Authority and Model Penal Code, a member of the U.S. Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Rules of Criminal Procedure, a U.S. delegate to several Interna- tional Prison Congresses, and a consultant to the late Justice Robert H. Jackson on the trial of war criminals. For many years, he has been engaged with his wife, Dr, Eleanor Touroff Glueck, in research on correctional and juvenile delin- quency problems, which has been reflected in numerous pioneering studies including One Tboumnd fmfenile Delinquenlr, and Un- raoeling juvenile Delinquency. With Professor Hall, he has co- authored Cave: in Criminal Law and its Enforcement. Born: 18963 Warsaw, Poland. CHARLES MONROE HAAR Professor of Law Entering the Law School in 1941, Professor Haar left shortly thereafter for a tour of duty in New Guinea and the Philippines as a Naval Intelligence Ofiicer. Graduating in 1948, he was awarded a Sheldon Travelling Fellowship and spent a year in England, where he wrote Land Planning Law in a Free Soeiely. From 1950 to 1952, before joining the faculty, Professor Haar lectured at New York University and was a consultant for the Town Planning Commission of the United Nations. Among his numerous publications, Professor Haar has written Federal Credit and Private Houfing, and has edited a casebook on land-use controls. He is currently teaching Property I, and seminars in Land Use Planning and Land Reform. Born: 19203 Antwerp, Belgium, A.B., 1940, New York Universityg M.A., 1941, University of Wisconsin LL.B., 1949, Harvard. LIVINGSTON HALL Proferror of Law After graduating from the Law School magna cum laude, Pro- fessor Hall spent four years in private practice, and one year as an Assistant United States District Attorney in New York before becoming a member of the faculty in 1932. In 1938, he was named Vice Dean, a post which he held for 20 years, and during the spring of 1959, was appointed Acting Dean. During the war, he was with the O.P.A. and later with the Army Air Corps in the Southwest Pacific. Professor Hall is a member of the judicial Council of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and of the Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
