JOHN THEODORE MCNAUGHTON Proferror of Low Professor McNaughton was graduated from the Harvard Law School in 1948. Thereafter, he was a Rhodes Scholar, served in the General Counsel's Office of E.C.A. in Paris, and was editor and legal counsel of the Pekin Qlllinoisj Daily Timer. Since his appointment to the Law School faculty in 1953, Professor McNaughton has taught Evidence, Commercial Law, Torts, Contracts, Agency, and Procedure. Since 1957, he has served on a part-time basis as an Assistant District Attorney for the Northern District fMiddlesex Countyj of Massachusetts. Proferroi' of Lolo After graduation from the Law School, Professor Oldman practiced in Buffalo and taught part-time at the University of Buffalo Law School. Since 1955, when he returned to the Law School, he has been directing the training activities of the Inter- national Program in Taxation. In the summer of 1958, he was a member, with Professor Surrey, of the Commission to Study the Fiscal System of Venezuela, and in june, 1960, he and Professor Surrey conducted a Preliminary Survey of the Tax System of Argentina. He has been teaching State and Local Taxation, a seminar in International Tax Research and special classes for foreign tax officials. Born: 1920, New York, New York. RATNER Leclffrer 011 Law After graduating from the University of California School of Law, Mr. Ratner was clerk to Mr. justice Traynor of the Su- preme Court of California. During World War II, he served in the Navy as a legal officer and trial judge advocate and then entered private practice in Los Angeles. In 1953, he began teaching on a part-time basis at the Uni- versity of Southern California School of Law. I-Ie came to Har- vard in 1958 as a Ford Fellow and joined the faculty in 1959. Author of several law review articles, Mr. Ratner is teaching Trial Practice and Trusts and is supervising the hrsbyear Group Work program. Born: 1916g New York, New York. XWALTER BARTON LEACH Sfory Proferrm' of Law After graduating from the Law School, Professor Leach worked as clerk to Mr. justice Holmes, then practiced in Boston. In 1929 he was appointed to the Law School faculty. He has also taught at Oxford, the University of Colorado, and North- eastern University. He is a Brigadier General USAFR Qretj and a Consultant to the Air Force. His publications include casebooks on Wills, Property, and Future Interests and Eiitate Planning, texts on The Rifle Agaiazrl Perjielfliliar. Professor Leach has contributed to the Property Restatement and Amerirfm Law of Properly. He teaches Property I, Future Interests and Estate Planning, and the Seminar in Defense Policy. After receiving his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1956, he served for one year as law clerk to Mr. justice Traynor of the Supreme Court of California, and then, during the October Term, 1957, as law Clerk to Mr. Justice Frankfurter. He joined the Law School faculty in 1958. Professor Mans- Held teaches Evidence and Torts. Born: 1928: Morristown, New jersey. B.A., 19523 LL.B., 1956, Harvard. 21 LOUIS LOSS Professor of Law A graduate of the Yale Law School, Professor Loss was first associated with the legal staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and in 1948 became the Associate General Counsel He was Visiting Lecturer in Law at Yale from 1947 to 1952. The following year he became a member of the Law School faculty. Professor Loss is the author of Semritier Regzrlfzlmzz C1951, 2d ed., 1961j and co-author of Blue Sky Law C1958j. ALBERT MARTIN SACKS Professor of Lau' After graduating from the College of the City of New York in 1940, Professor Sacks was associated with a New York corporation until 1942, when he entered the Army. In the Army, he served as a Personnel Consultant. Upon graduation from Harvard Law School in 1948, Profes- sor Sacks became law clerk to the late Augustus N. Hand, Judge of the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit. He was a law clerk to Mr. justice Frankfurter during the Supreme Court Term in 1949. He remained in Wasliington in private practice with Covington and Burling until 1952, when he was appointed to the Law School. Professor Sacks conducts courses in Civil Procedure, Legal Process, and State and Local Government Law. Born: 1920, New York, New York. Professor Sander participated in two sessions of the Salzburg Seminar on American Studies, and for the second meeting in 1954, he served as faculty assistant to four Law School profes- sors. l-le teaches courses in Taxation and Family Law and a seminar on Tax Policy in the International Tax Program.
