After general practice and graduate study, he served as law clerk to Mr, Justice Brandeis in 1933. He was an attorney with the National Labor Relations Board through 1935. Professor Jaffe began teaching at the University of Buffalo Law School, and in 1948 became Dean. His article on Res lpsa Loquitur Vindicatedn inaugurated the Bnjrzlo Law Review. He was appointed to the Law School faculty in 1950. He was a Stone Scholar and member of the Law Review Board at Columbia Law School, where he graduated with honors in 1948. He then practiced law in New York City for three years before beginning his teaching career at Utah. He spent 1956 at the University of Melbourne, Australia, as a visiting Fulbright Professor. BENJAMIN KAPLAN Proferror 'of Law Professor Kaplan is a graduate of Columbia Law School where he was editor-in-chief of the Law Review. He practiced law in New York City for nine years before entering the serv- ice in 1942. During Army service he was a member of Mr. Jus- tice Jackson's staff in the Nuremberg prosecution. He returned to his law firm in 1946, and was named Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard in 1947. His appointment as Professor of Law followed the next year. Since 1932 he has been a member of the Law School faculty. After private practice in Boston, he was appointed to the University of Buffalo Law School faculty and became Dean of that school in 1940. During World War II Professor Howe served as a Colonel with the American Military Government and with the Civil Affairs Division of the War Department. He has edited the Holffzer-Pollock and Holmes-Ln.fl2i Lelleizr and has written the first volume of a projected three-volume biography of Mr. Jus- tice Holmes, He teaches Admiralty, American Legal History, and Consti- tutional Law. He also served, during this time, as a Lt. Commander, USNR. In 1946 he was named Byrne Professor of Administrative Law. On leave from 1948 to 1954, he served as U. S. ROBERT ERNEST KEETON Profe.s'.ror 0 Law Professor Keeton was engaged in private practice in Houston, Texas, until the outbreak of World War II. From 1943 to 1945 he was Flag Secretary to Rear Admiral Mulinnix and assistant Flag Secretary to Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. After the war, he resumed private practice, specializing in personal injury and insurance litigation. Prior to this appoint- ment to the Law School faculty in 1954, he was Associate Pro- fessor at Southern Methodist University. Professor Keeton is the author of Trial Tarlirr and Melbozlr, Basic Iiirfinzizre Law, and co-editor of a casebook on Torts. I-le teaches Torts, Trial Practice, and Insurance. FRIEDRICH KESSLER Visiting Proferror of Law Professor Kessler comes to Harvard from Yale Law School, where he is Justus S. Hotchkiss Professor of Law. Born in Ger- many, he studied law at the universities of Tubingen, Munich, and Marburg, As the Nazis carrie into power, he left Germany in 1954 and came to the United States as a Rockefeller Fellow. A year in research and appointments as Lecturer in Law and Assistant Professor of Law at Yale preceded his move to the University of Chicago Law School in 1938. In 1947, he returned to Yale.
