Proferrar of Law Receiving his LL.B. in 1937, Professor Cox began his law career by serving as secretary to Judge Learned Hand, Thereafter he practiced in Boston until 1941 when he became associated with the National Defense Mediation Board. I-Ie later entered the Odice of the Solicitor General, Department of justice, and from 1943 to 1945 he was Associate Solicitor General for the EE: United States Department of Labor. Appointed to the Law School faculty in 1945, Professor Cox served as Acting Vice-Dean during the Spring Term of 1947. W In 1952, he was Chairman of the Wage Stabilization Board. Professor Cox is the editor of a casebook on Labor Law. He left the Law School this year to assume the duties of United States Solicitor General. Born: 1912g Plainfield, New jersey. He had been teaching previously in the Medico-'Legal Problems Seminar as a member of the Medical School faculty. This year, Professor Curran is teaching the seminar, and he is director of the Law-Medicine Research Institute of Boston Uni- versity, where he is Professor of Legal Medicine. DAWSON Proferror of Law Studies at the University of Michigan and Oxford preceded Professor Dawsonis appointment to the Michigan faculty in 1927, where he remained until 1956. On leave from the University from 1942 to 1945, he served as Chief Counsel in the Rent Section, Office of Price Adminis- tration, Chief, Middle East Division, Foreign Economic Admin- istrationg and Acting Regional Economic Counsellor for the Middle East, State Department. After a year as an instructor here, he taught at the law schools of West Virginia and Duke University, with appointments as Visiting Professor at Yale and Chicago. After wartime service as Assistant and Associate General Counsel for Price in the O.P.A., Professor Cavers rejoined the Law School faculty. From 1951 through 1959, he also served as Associate Dean. An addition to many contributions to legal periodicals, Pro- fessor Cavers established and edited Lau' and C017lel11fJ0r11ry Problemr. He received his A.B, from Harvard in 1945, and after- wards served with the Field Artillery in France, Holland, Ger- many, and Japan. Wlaile a student at the Law School, he was President and Note Editor of the Law Review. Professor Chayes has been Legal Advisor to Governor Chester Bowles of Connecticut and Associate General Counsel of the Presiclent's Materials Policy Commission. For the October Term 1951, he was law clerk to Mr, justice Frankfurter. From 1952 until his appointment to the faculty, he was associated with the hrm of Covington 8: Burling in Washington, D. C. PETER FRANCIS COOGAN Lerllrrer an Law A partner in a downtown Boston law lirm, Mr. Coogan con- ducts courses in Creditors' Rights and is giving a course this summer in Financial Planning. Along with 19 years of practice, his career includes 10 years in business and teaching experience in both law and business. He has written and lectured extensively on Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, which deals with secured trans- actions, and he is chairman of the National Bankruptcy Confer- ence's Committee on Liens. CHARLES FAIRMAN Proferror of Law Professor Fairman has taught courses in law and government at Pomona College, Williams College, Stanford University, Washington University, and Harvard. Participating in both World Wars, he served as a Colonel in the judge Advocate General's Olhce from 1942 through 1946. Professor Fairman is on leave of absence while working on a history of the Supreme Court from 1864-1888, under the Perma- nent Committee for the Oliver Wendell Holmes Devise. RICHARD HINCKLEY FIELD Profeum' of Law After graduating from the Law School in 1929, Professor Field engaged in private practice in Boston until World War II, when he became General Counsel for the Office of Price Admin- istration. He returned to the Law School in 1946 as a member of the faculty, l-le is co-editor, with Professor Kaplan, of a casebook on Civil Procedure. From 1957 to 1959 he served as Reporter for the Rules Advisory Committee in Maine, and he is co- author of Maine Civil Prm'lice. ROGER FISHER I Proferror of Law After graduation from the Law School in 1948, Professor Fisher spent two years in Paris as an assistant to the General Counsel of the European headquarters of the Economic Cooper- ative Administration. He then entered private practice with a Washington, D. C. Hrm from 1950 through 1956, working largely in the international field. Professor Fisher then joined the Department of justice as an Assistant to the Solicitor Gen- eral before coming to the Law School faculty in 1958.
