HELEN MAUD CAM Samuel Zemurray, Jr. and Doris Zemurray Stone-Radcliffe Professor of History Since 1948, Miss Cam has been Samuel Zemurray, jr. and Doris Ze- murray Stone-Radcliffe Professor of History in Harvard University. She taught in England at Girton College Where she was Director of Studies in History and Law. Her latest work is England Before Elizabeth. This is Miss Cam's third year at the Law School where she is conducting a seminar in English Legal History. Born: 18852 England. I ANDREW JAMES CASNER Professor of Law Before coming to the Harvard Faculty in 1938, Professor Casner served on the Law School faculties of the following Universities: Illinois, Mary- land, Michigan, Texas, and Leland Stanford. He was a Colonel in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. Professor Casner participated both as a reporter and as an adviser in the preparation ofthe Restatement of Property. He was also Reporter for the Uniform Property Act and has contributed a number of articles in the property field to legal periodicals. He is co-editor with Professor Leach of a Casebook for Property I and Editor-in-Chief of American Law of Property, a seven volume treatise. In 1953 he published Ertate Planning: Cater, Statuter, Text and Other Materialf. He is teaching Property I and the course in Wills, Future Interests and Estate Planning. Born: 1907, Chicago, Illinois. A.B., LL.B., 1929, University of Illinois, S.j.D., 1941, Columbia. ZECHARIAH CHAFEE, JR. University Professor Professor Chafee came to the faculty of the Harvard Law School in 1916 after three years of practice in Providence, and was Langdell Professor from 1938-1950. His studies have been chiefly in the helds of Equity and Nego- tiable Instruments, but his writings reflect his varied interests. Free Speech in the United Stater, Government and Marr Communieationt, Weathering the Panic of'73, State Home ot. Penthouxe: Legal Problem: ofthe R. I. Rate Traeh Row, and others including How Human Right! Got into the Conttitution. In 1936 he drafted the Federal Interpleader Act and was in 1947 and 1948 a member of the United Nations Sub-commission on Information and Freedom of the Press. This year he is teaching Equitable Remedies and Unfair Competition and is giving a seminar on Fundamental Human Rights. ROBERT BRAUCHER l 1946. KINGMAN BREWSTER, JR. Professor of Law Professor Brewster entered the Law School after the war and graduated in 1948. He then went to Paris with Professor Katz as assistant to the General Counsel in the Ofiice of the United States Special Representative in Europe and was a special assistant to Mr. Katz when the latter was made Deputy Special Representative. In 1949 he was a Research Associate in the Department of Economics and Social Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and joined the Law School Faculty in the fall of 1950. - This year Professor Brewster is teaching Contracts, Government Con- trol of Business, and International Trade and Investment. Beginning in 1957 he combined practice with teaching at the University of Buffalo Law School From 1942 to 1945 Professor Brown was a Captain in the Oliice of Strategic Services. ZELMAN COWEN Visiting Professor of Law Professor Cowen, Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Melbourne, Australia, was a Rhodes Scholar and a Vinerian Law Scholar at Oxford University and was elected a Fellow of Oriel College in 1947. He taught at Oxford until 1950 when he returned to his native Melbourne as Professor of Public Law and Dean of the Law School. He is also Dominion Liaison Officer in Australia for the British Colonial Office. During World War II, Professor Cowen was an officer in the Australian Navy, and in 1947 served as Constitutional Consultant in Germany for the British Military Govern- ment. Professor Cowen was co-editor of Dicey, Confiicl ofLawr and in 1950 became editor of the International Law Quarterly. He is co-author of Errays in Evidence to be published by Oxford University Press. At Harvard he is conducting classes in Conflict of Laws and a seminar in International Confiict of Laws. Born: 1919, Melbourne, Australia. ARCHIBALD COX Professor of Law After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1937, Professor Cox was secretary to Learned Hand, judge of the United States Court of Appeals. From 1938 to 1941, he practiced law in Boston. He was appointed Visiting Professor in October, 1945, and Professor in 1946. During the spring term, 1947, he was Acting Vice-Dean. In 1941, he served with the National Defense Mediation Board and in December of that year joined the Office of the Solicitor General, Depart- ment ofjusrice, where he remained until 1943. He held the position of Associate Solicitor of the United States Department of Labor from 1943 to 1945. In 1952, he was Chairman ofthe Wage Stabilization Board in Wash- ington, D. C. Professor Cox is now teaching Labor Law and is also conducting two seminars in Labor Law: one is considering proposals for the revision of the Taft-Hartley Act, the other, the application of Anti-Trust laws to labor problems. RICHARD HINCKLEY FIELD Professor of Law After fourteen years of practice in Boston, Professor Field joined the staff of the Office of Price Administration in 1942 as Regional Attorney in Boston. In December, 1943, he went to Washington and served for three years as General Counsel of the O.P.A. In December, 1946, he joined the Harvard Law Faculty.
