President Pusey was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on April 4, 1907. After Graduation from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, he entered Harvard College, where he studied English and Comparative Literature. After graduation in 1928 with the A.B. degree magna cam laude, he spent a year in Europe, chiefly in France and Italy, and then became a teacher at the Riverdale Country School, outside New York City. He received the Master of Arts degree in 1932, and served as a part-time Assistant in History at Harvard during 1932-33. He spent the follow- ing year in Greece as Archibald Cary Coolidge Fellow. President Pusey first went to Lawrence College in 1935 as a Sophomore Tutor in an experimental program of liberal arts education. He completed his graduate work in ancient his- tory at Harvard in 1937, receiving his Ph.D. -l14l NATHAN MARSH PUSEY President of Harvard University He taught at Scripps College, Claremont, California, from 1938 to 1940, as Assistant Professor of History and Literature. In 1940, he joined the faculty of Wesleyan University to take Part in the development of new liberal arts courses for freshmen and sophomores. He became Associate Professor of the Classics at Wesleyan in 1943, and, during the war, taught physics to Naval V-5 students at Wesleyan. He was elected President of Lawrence Col- lege in 1944 and served there until his selection as Harvard's President in 1955. President Pusey is a member of the Harvard Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. He holds the honorary degrees of L.H.D. from Coe College f1948j and LL.D. from Wesleyan 09442, Ripon College 11949, and Yale fNovember 21, 19531 It is with great pleasure that the Law School welcomes the twenty-fourth President of Har- vard University.

Born in 1904 in East Cleveland, Ohio, Dean Griswold studied at Oberlin College where in 1925 he received both an A.B. and A.M. degree, before entering Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, he had a high average, and was elected President of the Law Review. He received his LL.B. in 1928, followed by an SJD. in 1929. He was admitted to practice in his native state in 1929, and began to practice in Cleve- land. However, he soon left for Washington where he served from 1929 to 1934 as Special Assistant to the Attorney General. In 1934, he was appointed to the Harvard Law School faculty, becoming a full professor in 1935. In 1946, he became Dean and since 1950 has also held the chair of Langdell Professor of Law. Besides running the administration of the -'ski swf .Mx .. Law School, Dean Griswold also teaches Federal Taxation. In the past the Dean also taught courses in Trusts, Conflicts of Laws, and Ad- ministrative Law. He is a recognized expert in the fields of Federal Taxation and Spend- thrift Trusts, and has published numerous articles and books, including Spefzdtlsrzifi Tram and Cam on Fezleml Taxation, co-editing Carer 011 Coufim of Lawx. He has been an adviser to the Restatements of Trusts, Restitution, and judgments, and has served as an adviser to the Treasury Department.
