CALVERT MAGRUDER Lecturer on Law After serving as secretary to Mr. Justice Brandeis for the 1916-17 term, Professor Magruder joined the Army as an In- fantry Lieutenant. Later he returned to Washington as attorney for the United States Shipping Board. In 1920 he became an Assistant Professor in the Law School, and in 1925, Professor. He was on leave of absence in 1934-35 serving as general counsel of the N.L.R.B., and again in 1938-39, serving as general counsel of the Wage and Hour Division, United States Department of Labor. In 1939 he was appointed to the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and since 1942 he has served as a judge of the United States Emergency Court of Appeals. Professor Magruder is co-editor of Crane and Magruder, Cases on Law of Partnership. He is teaching a course in Torts. Born: 1893, Annapolis, Maryland. SOI-IN Lecturer on Law Mr. Sohn has served as research assistant to Judge Hudson of the Permanent Court of International Justice since 1941. He was the secretary of the Legal Subcommittee on Atomic Energy for the year 1946. At present he is editing the department on the Development of International Law in the American Bar Asso- ciation Journal. In 1948 he served as a consultant to the Legal Department of the United Nations Secretariat and was a legal officer of the Secretariat in 1950. He is the author of Cases and Materials on World Law. In 1941 Mr. Sohn was winner of the Addison-Brown Prize for an essay dealing with Interstate Torts. He is the author of numerous articles in legal journals, and this year is teaching World Organization. Born: 1914, Lwow, Poland. LL.M., Dipl. Sc. BENJAMIN MACKINNON Ezra Ripley Thayer Teaching Fellow Mr. MacKinnon split his undergraduate time between Princeton and Chicago. After his graduation from the latter he served for three and one-half years with the U. S. Navy. Finishing at the Law School in 1948, Mr. MacKinnon practiced as a member of the Boston Bar until he was appointed to the Faculty. This is Mr. McKinnon's second year as a teaching fellow. ARTHUR T. voN MEHREN Assistant Professor of Law After graduation from the Law School, Professor von Mehren was for a year secretary to the Honorable Calvert Magruder, Judge of the United States Court of Appeals. In 1946 he was appointed Assistant Professor of Law and sent abroad to study the continental systems of law, studying at the University of Zurich, 1946-47, and the University of Paris, 1948-49. He took a leave of absence in 1947-48 to serve with the Legal Division of the Occupation Military Government QU. S.j in Germany. Professor von Mehren is now teaching An Introduction to the Civil Law System, Contracts, Comparative Public Law, and a Seminar in Comparative Private Law. Born: 1922, Albert Lea, Minnesota. B.S., 1942, LL.B., 1945, Ph.D., 1946, Harvard. DAVID EIDE WATTS Assistant Professor of Law Professor Watts entered the army in 1942, and after a brief initial period in anti-aircraft artillery, served with military in- telligence until 1946. Following graduate study at Columbia, and prior to joining the Harvard Law School in 1949, he taught at the law school of the Universities of Iowa and Pennsylvania. He teaches Property. Born: 1921, Fairfield, Iowa. A.B., 1941, J.D., 1942, University of Iowa. MORRIS ALBERT ADELMAN Lecturer on Law Professor Adelman is an Assistant Professor of Economics at M.I.T. After graduation from The College of the City of New York in 1938 Professor Adelman served as an economist with the War Production Board in Washington from 1941 to 1942. He served with the U. S. WILLIAM H. BERMAN Teaching Fellow Mr. Berman left college to enter the Navy in 1943 and as an Ensign, served on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations for the following two years. After being released to inactive duty, he returned to complete his undergraduate work at Harvard College, and in 1947, spent six months working for the State Department in Europe. He entered the Law School in the fall of 1947, and during his second and third years, served as a member of the Legal Aid Bureau. He was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1950. Born: 1924, Toledo, Ohio. A.B., 1946, LL.B., 1950, Harvard. ROBERT E. FRISCH Teaching Fellow Mr. Frisch entered the Law School in 1947, after having served almost three years with the Infantry, one of which was spent on combat duty in France and Germany. Upon graduation from Law School, he became a member of the New York Bar and worked there until his return to Harvard as a Teaching Fellow. Born: 1925 in Chicago, Illinois. A.B., 1947, LL.B., 1950, Harvard. WARREN J. GREENE Teaching Fellow Mr. Greene entered the Law School in 1947, after a college career which had been interrupted by two and one-half years in the Army Signal Corps and Air Force. He was on the Legal Aid Bureau, Board of Student Advisers, and the Law Review, graduating in 1950. He worked for the firm of Greene and Hellring in Newark, New Jersey, before beginning his duties this year as a Teaching Fellow. Born: 1924, Newark, New Jersey. A.B., 1947, LL.B., 1950, Harvard.
