WARREN ABNER SEAVEY Bussey Professor of Law In 1906 Professor Seavey organized the Law School of Pei Yang University, China. From 1912 to 1920 he served con- secutively at Harvard and on the faculties of the Universities of Oklahoma, Tulane, and Indiana. He was president of the Asso- ciation of American Law Schools, 19473 was co-reporter for the Restatements of Agency, Judgments, Restitution and Torts, is editor of the American Case Book Series and has compiled case- books on Torts and Agency. He now teaches Agency, Restitution and Torts. Born: 1880, Boston, Massachusetts. ROBERT AMORY, JR. Professor of Law Professor Amory spent two and one-half years with the firm that is now Cahill, Gordon, Zachry and Reindel in New York City, specializing in corporate and anti-trust matters. His active military service began in January, 1941, as a private and took him through New Guinea, New Britain and most of the Philippines as a battalion and finally a regimental commander of amphibian engineers. For six months in 1946 he served as assistant treasurer of a textile mill and then joined the faculty of the Harvard Law School. Professor Amory was elected to the Cambridge School Board last year. Page sixteen ROBERT BRAUCHER Professor of Law During 1939-41 Professor Braucher worked primarily on liti- gation with the New York firm that is now Hughes, Hubbard 85 Ewing. He enlisted in the army as a flying cadet in April, 1941, and served as a fighter pilot in the India-Burma theatre and as an intelligence officer in the Pentagon and with the Strategic Bombing Survey in Japan. He returned to Harvard in 1946, but continues active in the Air Force Reserve. Since 1948 Professor Braucher has been a consultant to the New York Law Revision Commission. He is the author with Charles Corker of the text Introduction to Commercial Law and the editor of a Casebook on Commercial Law. This year he is teaching Commercial Law, a seminar on Government Contracts, and a law course at the Harvard Business School. Born: 1916, New York, New York. WALTER BARTON LEACH Story Professor of Law Professor Leach served as Secretary to Mr. Justice Holmes, 1924-25, then took up trial practice in Boston, teaching law nights at Northeastern Law School. In 1929 he joined the Harvard Law School faculty, continuing in law practice as consistent with academic duties. Professor Leach is the author of casebooks on Future Interests, Wills and fwith Professor Casnerj Property Ig a Handbook of Massachusetts Evidence, Property Restatement chapters on Pow- ers of Appointment and Statutes of Limitations, and articles on various legal and other subjects. An infantry private in 1918, Professor Leach served in World War II in the Army Air Forces. He is now a Brigadier General in the USAF Reserve and Consultant to the Secretary of the Air Force. He teaches Property I, and Property II and the research course in Property III. Born: 1900, Boston, Massachusetts. AUSTIN WAKEMAN SCOTT Dane Professor of Law Professor Scott was appointed as an instructor in the Harvard Law School in 1909, and as an assistant Professor in 1910, after a year of practice in New York City. He was Acting Dean of the Law School from 1915 to 1916, and has held the Story and Dane Chairs. In 1928 Professor Scott was President of the Association of American Law Schools. He was reporter for the Restatements of Trusts and of Resti- tution CPart IIJ as well as co-reporter with Professor Seavey of the Restatement of Judgments. He also drafted the Uniform Fiduciaries Act, has edited casebooks on Trusts, Civil Procedure and judicial Remedies, and is the author of various legal mono- graphs. In 1939 he published his treatise on the law of Trusts. Professor Scott is now teaching Procedure and Trusts. Born: 1884 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. A.B., 1903, Rutgers, LL.B., 1909, Harvard. JOHN MACARTHUR MAGUIRE Royall Professor of Law Professor Maguire was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1911 and practiced in Boston. During World War I he served in the Department of Justice. He came to the Harvard Law School in 1923. In 1938 and again in 1943 he Was a consulting expert with the United States Treasury Department. Professor Maguire has been vice-chairman of the American Bar Association Committee on Jurisprudence and Law Reform. He was Assistant Reporter of the Model Code of Evidence, and is a Special Consultant on the Income Tax Project of the American Law Institute. For nearly 25 years Professor Maguire was Legal Adviser to the American Association of University Professors on problems of academic freedom and tenure. He has edited case- books on Taxation and Evidence, and has written a short textbook on Evidence. Professor Maguire is teaching Evidence,,State and Local Tax- ation and Special Tax Problems. ERNEST JOSEPH BROWN Professor of Law Professor Brown began the practice of law in Buffalo, New York, in 1931. After several years of general litigation work he devoted most of his time to tax and corporate matters. Beginning in 1937 he combined practice with teaching at the University of Buffalo Law School. From 1942 to 1945 Professor Brown was a Captain in the Office of Strategic Services. He came to the Law School in 1946 and is teaching Taxation and Constitutional Law. Born: 1906 at Lake Providence, Louisiana. A.B., 1927, Princetong LL.B., 1931, Harvard. DAVID FARQUI-IAR CAVERS Professor of Law Professor Cavers joined the Law School Faculty in 1946. Previously he had taught here as an instructor for the year 1929-30, having practiced in New York before that. He then became Assistant Professor at the West Virginia University Col- lege of Law. From 1931 to 1945 he was Professor of Law at Duke University, and Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago and at Yale University. Professor Cavers established and edited the Duke University Law School Quarterly. During the war he served as Assistant General Counsel for Price and later as Associate General Counsel for Price in the OPA. Professor Cavers is teaching seminars in Public Utilities and Prob- lems in the Public Control of Atomic Energy and is supervising the first year program of group work. Born: 1902 in Buffalo, New York. , B.S. in Economics, 1923, University of Pennsylvania, LL.B., 1926, Harvard. ANDREW JAMES CASNER Professor of Law Born: 1907 in Chicago, Illinois. Before coming to the Harvard Faculty in 1938, Professor Casner served on the Law School faculties of the following Uni- versities: Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Texas, and Leland Stanford. He was a Colonel in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. Professor Casner participated both as a reporter and as an adviser in the preparation of the Restatement of Property. He was also Reporter for the Uniform Property Act and has con- tributed a number of articles in the property field to legal period- icals.
