'ptyieov ict As you turn through the pages of your 1955-56 yearbook, THE HUB, we hope that the classes, organizations, and activities portrayed here will keep bright your treas- ured and joyous memories of happy days spent at Hartwick High School. It is our fondest desire that this year- book will be your link forever with the memories of your past spent at H. H. S. ‘Dedication Do not think that what is hard for thee to master is impossible for man; but if a thing is possible and proper to man, deem it at- tainable by thee. (Marcus Aurelius) 'P't t7?te6teupe MR. SLATER We have all heard it said, There is no short-cut to success. By hard work and persistent effort you have in your gradu- ation achieved a major success. As you leave, you are taking with you from your high school days exactly what you have put into those days. As you move into other stages of life, may it be college, a job or marriage, the same will hold true. The future has never held so many opportunities fora good life as it does today. Equally so, the world today has a greater need than ever for the sincere and well-trained individual. As you leave I feel confident of your ability to join this group. President ROBERT PHILLIPS The students of Hartwick High School wish to ex- tend their appreciation to the school board for the job they have done during the past year. The school board members have devoted much of their time to the betterment of the school, and without their work the school could not be operated in the best interests of the people. New Berlin - 8 Cherry Valley-34 Guilford - 6 Laurens - 14 The football team of 55, with the help of Coach St. Peter, went through a suc- cessful season with a record of seven wins and one loss. An average of forty-four and one eighth points per game was scored during this year's football season. Bill Bresee, Jim Campbell, Dick Conklin, and Chuck Smith are graduating seniors who would like to express their hopefulness that next year's team can win without their help. Left to tight; C. In the '55-'56 basketball season Hartwick's fast breaking varsity team made a good seasonal showing regardless of lack of height. The league record for this year stands at 7 wins and 3 losses as we tied for second place. Although this re- cord is not as good as previous years, Coach St. Peter and the team did a very good job. SfUZfed The JV Cheerleaders What’s This??? Working Hard? Super Salesman 'PiofiAectf As the members of the Class of 1956 return to Hartwick High for their ten year re- union, we find that the class members have really made their way to the top in many professions. Well, here comes Bill Bresee, who has recently become president of General Motors Corporation. His continuous work on his doodlebug sure paid off. Right behind Bill is Dick Conklin, the well-known Indianapolis race star, who has just broken the record for the most accidents in one year. His only injury consisted of a broken finger. He is closely followed by Susie Renwick who turned her interest toward cars, too. She models the new Jaguar sports cars with the forward look. Esther Schidzick tells us that after her hillbilly courtship she has finally settled down to a civilized life. Following Esther comes Vicky Williams the well-known shorthand specialist. She has just quit her job as the stenographer of the Chrysler Motor Corporation. She kept falling off the boss' lap. There's a big crowd of autograph hunters standing around that man over there. Wait! I know him! That's Jimmy Campbell, who has recently appeared at the Copa Cabana with his seven little foys singing his new version of Ain't That A Shame. Another juke box favorite these days is Roy Miles, the champion yodeler of Hartwick. He has just out sold Eddie Arnold with his five current hits. Well, here comes Nadine Murdock driving a lush of a car. She must have made a good profit from her renowned fashion designs. Here comes our little biddy buddy all excited. It's Roger Hull. He says that he has just made the first radio contact with the moon. Could he be corresponding with relatives? Louise Bunn, a noted geologist, tells us that she has just added twin” rocks to her family of rocks. Her husband's name is Rocky. We are missing someone, but who? Oh, late as usual, it’s Chuck Smith. His name has recently been in the papers. He is one of the best photographers in Hollywood and has just received an academy award. As the day ends and we say farewell to our classmates, we decide that old Hartwick High has a good reason for being proud of the Class of '56. We, the Class of 1956 of Hartwick High School, being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish, and declare this our last will and statement. Charles Smith leaves to Jim McGrath a motor scooter in hopes that he will get to class promptly as Chuck did. Gloria Hibbard leaves her glowing personality to Sandi Aluffo. Roy Miles leaves his intelligent laugh to Robert Briscoe. Nadine Murdock leaves her defensive means of protection to Patty Folts. Dick Conklin leaves his ability to sleep in class to John Mott. Sue Renwick leaves her ability to steer cars to Darlene Gill. Jim Campbell leaves his tactful, courteous manner with the girls to Charlie Wart. Vicky Williams leaves her innocent look to Betsy Patterson. Bill Bresee leaves to Eddie Carvin his razor in hopes Eddie will use it more than he did. Louise Bunn leaves her shorthand talents to Janet Mistretta. Roger Hull leaves his scientific knowledge to Roy Nersesian. Esther Schidzick leaves her ability to get along with Mr. Dennin to Amelia Lyon. The Senior Class leaves to Mr. Dennin the incoming Freshman Class in hopes that he will work with them as hard as he has with us. Lastly, we appoint the future president of the incoming Seniors, executor of this, our last will and testament. This will is signed, published and declared by Gloria Hibbard.
