I know a reasonable woman, Handsome and witty, yet a friend. Not warp’d by passion, awed by rumour; Not grave through pride, nor gay through folly; An equal mixture of good-humour And sensible soft melancholy. ‘Has she no faults then (Envy says), Sir?’ Yes, she has one, I must aver: When all the world conspires to praise her, The woman’s deaf, and does not hear. Ptincipol Charles W. Bowler, Principal To The Class of 1954: It is with a great deal of pleasure and sadness that I see this class on the threshold of graduation. Each and everyone has worked hard to attain his high school diploma. I am very happy to see them graduate, but sad to see them go as they were a great class, studious yes, but more than that. Their actions and attitudes towards teachers, classmates, schoolwork, and community did a great deal to improve Hartwick High School. They were Freshmen when I arrived on the scene, and have helped me greatly in having a pleasant time while Principal at Hartwick. I should like to leave the class these few words of inspiration taken from a speech by J. C. Penny, President of the Penny Chain Stores: success in life does not depend upon genius. Any young man of ordinary intelligence, who is morally sound and not afraid of work, should succeed in spite of obstacles and handicaps, if he plays the game and keeps everlastingly at it. The possibilities are measured by determination .... ” To that may I add the little saying that I have often quoted to you. In life there is no such word as “can’t”. It just takes a little longer”. Good luck and God bless you.
