s ladd Our history started back in 1940, when six members of our present class started in Kindergarten in Hartwick High School. They were Charles Hadley, Leland Beach, Ann Patterson, Earl Roberts, Robert Ryan, and Joyce Persons. Mary Ann Domion came to us from the White House in the third grade. Frank McGrath joined us in the fourth grade from New York and also from New York came Virginia Mistretta who joined our class in the fifth grade. John Polulech came here from East Spring- field in the eighth grade. On entering the ninth grade, with Mr. Sant Angelo as our advisor, we elected the following officers: President, Mary Ann Domion; Vice President, Allene Barney; Secretary, Charles Hadley; Treasurer, Leland Beach. We eagerly began earning money for our Senior Trip of ’54. Our First big moneymaking events were a raffle and a skating party. In our sophomore year with Leland Beach as President, Ann Patterson as Vice President, Mary Domion as Secretary, and Chuck Hadley as Treasurer, and Mrs. Green as our Advisor, we continued our money raising campaign to enlarge our treasury. We sponsored movies, bake sales, and sold school emblems and pins. Because of our eagerness to make money we became known as the “money mad Sophomores.” After a wonderful summer vacation we entered our Junior year, looking forward to the coming events. Mrs. Green again was our advisor. Frank McGrath, President; Ann Patterson, Vice President; Mary Domion, Secretary; Joyce Persons, Treasurer. To start the year off we sold Christmas cards and stationary. In October for the Sesqui-Centennial we sold ash trays with seals on them and keys to the city. In May our Junior Prom was held at the hall and we danced to the music of Charles B. York. Thus, our Junior year was over and we were ready to become full-fledged seniors. Frank McGrath returned to the position of President, Earl Roberts was Vice President, Mary Domion was secretary, Leland Beach was treasurer and Mr. Bowler was our advisor. We also gained another member Irene Parker joined our class from Laurens. In the first few weeks of school we sold magazine subscriptions. Later on we held a “Jean Dance”, had a bake sale and sold candy during the noon hours. We also sold name plates for automobiles, with “Home of the Huskies”, Hartwick, New York written on them. Under the direction of Mr. Bowler and with the help of other High School students we presented a very successful Minstrel show. We presented it here, at Laurens, and also in the Oneonta Senior High School. In April, the Seniors presented “Peg O’My Heart”, a three act play. - Jlistor ¥
