Elmwood Ballad-with apologies to our Elmwood Friends - by Ray Minks fAn Elmwood Boyl W'e're from down there in old Elmwood Where you never have the blues: Where the bandits steal the jitneys, And the marshalls steal the booze. Where the buildings horn the skyline. Where the populace is boost, Where they shoot men just for pastime, And the chickens never roost. W here the stickup men are wary, And the bullets fall like hailg Where each pocket has a pistol, And each pistol's good for jail. Where they always hang the jury, Where they never hang a man, Where, if you call a man a liar, You get home the best you can. Where the jitneys whizz about you. And the street cars barely creep, Where the burglars pick your pockets. While you lay me down to sleep . Where the big dogs have the rabies, And the rabbits have the fleas: Where the big girls, like the little ones, W'ear their dresses above their knees. Where you breeze out in the moming To give your health a chance, And say how you all to some fellow Who shoots big holes in your pants. Where wise old owls are afraid to hoot, And jailbirds are afraid to singg For it's h-1 down here in Elmwood, Where they all shoot on the wing. We did it last year, Juniors. Now it's your turn.
