GIRL ' CHURUS Under the competent direction of Mr. Lewis, the Girls' Chorus, composed of girls from the Monday sixth period class, has developed into a melo- dious group. Through the halls of Hartwell a strange and disturbing sound peryades the air Both during and after school the usual peace and quiet is broken by the blare of trumpets and the trill of flutes This is the new Hartwell band a group of musically inclined pupils who are eagcr to dey elop their own talents and to promote the spirit of Hartwell At first they were hindered by lack of mstruments and experience Later howeyer through lIldlYldl1Zil purchase and the aid of the Board of Education they acquired enough pieces to furnish a nucleus for a band Nlr Lewis our musical director who has had much experience ln directing both high school and college bands IS the head of this group Throughout the year he and his students organized a small orchestra consisting of twelye of the more experienced players in the band The band made its lnltial appearance ln a community sing at the school auditorium on April 16 Next year the band and orchestra plan to play at football and basketball games, assem blies and concerts Let us hope that the students of future years at Hartwell will contmue to forward the growth of Hartwell s band HN 53 , Y . . .
