We girls organized ourselves into a home room club, choosing Dorothy Minnich as president, Shirley Witham as secretary, and Inez Whitehouse as treasurer. Early in the year we sophomores became interested in music, and many of us could be found in the auditorium after school, singing in the chorus or playing in the new band. We were also active among the pep squad and cheerleaders. Some of us found our way into athletics, both boys and girls being well represented. We were prom- inent in the minstrel cast, in the chorus, and as soloists and dancers. With the advent of war came the sale of defense stamps. In our home rooms, we divided into teams to see who could set the Rising Sun . General,' Elma Hyslop and Admiral Inez Whitehouse commanded the girls, with General Robert Schuette and Admiral', Ralph Merritt leading the boys. Yes, we are finding our places in Hartwell life. You'll be hearing more from us soon. A rose Lunch hour among thoms 33

Since our initiation into high school life by the seniors, lVe the Freshmen have gradually become accustomed to Hartwell. We boys have entered whole-heartedly into athletics, the first class of freshmen boys to have such a large representation in sports for several years. We girls have proved to be some of the best green material in sports for some years, and hope to provide stiff competition next year. WVe freshmen are also prominent in the chorus and band. Although we have accomplished little else than an adjust- ment into our new life, we feel that the future holds much for us and look forward to it with enthusiasm. First Row - B. Gorham, T.
