The 1940 YVarriors,', coached by Mr. Ernest Bliller, comprised one of the best balanced teams in Hartwell's recent pigskin history. The team, not studded with individual stars but made up of boys well trained in the fundamentals of team play, gave every opponent a stiff fight. The backfield, depending upon speed and deception for their punch, outscored opponents by thirty points, while a strong line, regarded by many as the best in the valley, played their positions well. However, the tean1's fumbles and mistakes at crucial moments accounted for the record of four wins and five defeats and wrested both the City Class B and the Valley Championships from its grasp. Bitter defeats by Lockland and North College Hill were perhaps the best evidence of this weakness. The climax of the season for Hartwell rooters came when the 'KVVarriors upset their unde- feated and highly favored rival, Wyoming, by a score of seven to nothing.
