Friday, May 3 N commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of high school education in America, Hartwell High School on Friday night, May 3, held a jubilee pageant, illustrating the difference between the high school of yester- day and that of to-day. The first scene depicted the Boston Latin Grammar School, established in 1635 and attended by boys only. The seeond -howed how the first girls' high school, in 1834, featured the monitorial system of in- struction. The third scene illustrated the early modern high school of 1886. For the last scene, that of .1 present day high school, the audience was invited to visit the classrooms and view the pupils' displays. The picture at the top represents the lioston Latin Sehool of 1635.
