Donovan Bohaychyk, Larry CLASS H I STORY On a bnght sunny day rn the fall of 1941 a group of small youngsters enter the door to thelr educat1on We were a l1ttle fnghtened and meek but th1s soon wore off through the process of makmq fnends We were sorted out and put 1nto two rooms headed by M1ss Eb1e and M1ss Cordter We learned our A B Cs and the three Rs along wrth many adventures In our readmg perlod we were broken up 1nto three groups the pomes the blue brds and the red brrds accordrng to how well we could read Dur1ng the year we showed off our musrc abrlrty rn the Grade School Rhythm Band We may not have sounded as the New York Phrlharmonrc Orchestra but we thought we were just as good At recess t1me we all scrambled for the swrngs and teeter totters If we were not one of the lucky few we played store cops and robbers or cow boys and Indrans Dunng the year Nelson Moor jorned us Our second grade teachers were M1ss Crose and M1ss Ianson By th1s t1me we thought we were really smart because we could read and wr1te a lot better We st1ll looked up to the th1rd and fourth grades because they got to play on the other srde of the school For the th1rd grade we had M1ss Keller and Mrs Glendenrng The t1me that was long walted for came We were now allowed to play on the brg krds Slde of the school Dolores Carmlchael and Ioe HUpI1Ch jorned us dur1ng th1s year In the Fourth grade our teacher was M1ss Shaffer Dur1ng the year we put on a lrttle play All the krds enjoyed th1s because we got out of dorng some of our school work Then The frfth grade meant every mornrng and evening we had the prrvrlege of walkmg up and down two flrghts of starrs Our teachers th1s year were M1ss PIICS and Mr Brumbaugh We made a lot of thmgs such as bracelets necklaces blllfolds and blrdhouses Dur1ng the year Garry Hershberger lomed our class For our srxth grade our teachers were M1ss Beckley and Mr Werstler We were delrghted to re- cexve three new frrends to our class Iohn Brothers Irm Harrrson and I1m Starcher We now entered the seventh grade Those words surely sounded good to our ears At last we had the thnll of chang1ng classes and to have a dlfferent teacher for every class We also had a Iumor H1gh basketball team whrch won consolatron Th1s year also proved fatal to one of our class mates Robert Shafer Our home room teachers that year were M1ss Underwood and Mr Hennlng Thrs year four more frrends jomed our class Iack Frease Ieralene Mos ey Dav1d Bagnolr and Bruce Watkrns rarse money for our class by savmg sales tax stamos wrth Mrs Goodson as our sponsor Th1s year the grade school and Junror hrgh presented The Chrlstmas Carol whlch was enjoyed by all Frnally the brg day arrlved and we entered Hxgh School but we were not full fledged Freshmen unt1l we had been 1n1t1ated That mght was a nrghtrnare not only for freshmen but upperclassmen too they had to look at all the messy strange lookrng creatures tWe were the creatures? Dunng the year we were busy trymg to thmk of ways to make money The offrcers elected to help us wlth th1s matter were Presrdent hm Mohler V1cePres1dent Krpp Krnsley Secretary Allrce Mrller Treasurer Mary Lou Kanel Student Councrl Ioe Hupr1ch and Larry Rerchenbach In our Sophomore year a new scholar was added to our class th1s bemg Shrrley Evans Marge West was elected Presrdent to lead us th1s year V1cePres1dent was Mary Lou Kanel Secretary Shlrley Keyser Treasurer Ianrce Besse Student Councll Nelson Moor and lean Fausmght Dur1ng the year we ordered our class sweaters and class Jackets We were so successful our Sophomore year that Marge West was elected Presrdent agarn 1n our Iunror year She was assrsted by VICE Presldent Mary Lou Kanel Secretary Larry Rerchenbach Treasurer Iamce Besse Student Councrl Nancy H111 Nelson Moor and Ioe Hupr1ch Dunng the year we held a f1sh supper a paper drrve and sponsored the Homecomrnq 1n football We took charge of the concess1ons at our home basketball games and produced our frrst play 'The Mad March I-Ie1rs under the d1rect1on of Mr Purvrance One of the two goals that we had worked hard for to produce money frnally came It was the entertamlng of the class of 51 at the annual Iumo Senror Prom held at the Shady Hollow Country Club The theme for the even1ng was Apple Blos om Tlme Larry Rerchenbach was master of cere 11 - - ll - . - In the eighth grade our home room teachers were Mrs. Goodson and Mr. Scott. We started to ' . ' ' I I . I . i . i . I . . i I . . i I . : , ' I ' , ' . . , : . ' : D ll N ' ll - . 3 . ' monies. We danced to the music of Harry Woofield and an enjoyable evening was had by all. Other happy days were when we received our sweaters and jackets, and the day we ordered our class rings. Another name added to roll call that year was Helen Bumbaugh. Being all rested up from the summer vacation the class of 52 , eager but with more sentiment was ready to start their last of these twelve wonderful years. Again we had to get to work so we could finance the second of our two goals, our class trip. The leaders that headed us this year were Presi- dent, lim Starcher, Vice-President, Larry Reichenbach: Treasurer, lack Frease: Secretary, Ioe Huprich: Student Council, Shirley Keyser, Ioanne Hoover and Mary Lou Kanel. Two more boys were added to the class this year, Richard Hunt and David Miller. Marge West took on the big job of being the editor of our Annual, while Helen Bumbaugh tackled the job of being the editor of the school paper. We again sponsored the Football Homecoming a chicken supper Barber Shop Quartet and numerous other activities The play Seven Sisters was chosen for our second production and was under the direction of Mr Purviance May 10 the Iumors held the prom at Alliance Country Club This was the big event of the year and was well worth waiting for Miss Zarich our class sponsor all through our high school years has been a successful sponsor who has produced a successful class The final curtain descended on our high school days at H H S with Mr Watson glvmg to us our diplomas at our commencement exercises Our class like so many classes before us have at last come to the threshold of a new life After years as classmates we have come to a parting of ways Many of us will continue with our education and many of us will not but nevertheless we all share the memories both gay and sad With this we pass through the doors of Hartvnlle High School and enter through the doors of the open world SENIOR POPULARITY POLL Marge West Most Likely to Succeed Lawrence Reichenbach Milrqe West All American Lawrence Reichenbach Helen Bumbaugh Best Student Ioe Hupnch Shirley Evans Best Athlete lim Mohler Mary Lou Kanal Most Musical Kipp Kinsley Ioanne Hoover Wittiest Garry Hershberger Shirley Keyser ..........,.L..
