lumor Band In mo t high schools of the county the Junior high 1or lzand was organized und r th direct on of Mr hool s udents are not allowed to play tn the band Bomgardner cmd w ll enter county omD titton next rlcrtv lle took uo th s practice this year The lun year The band made its debut on December 9 at a concert which was sponsored by the P T A It wa remarkable the rmprovement the band under f nt compared to five months previous In com Detitron with other bands from North Eastern Ohio c Kent on March 21 they rece1ved a very good rating There were fifty three bands there Eileen Maurer represented Hartv1lle at the Stark County Band Clinic at Canal Fulton on February 6 ln the Iun1or High Solo contest at North Canton on March 4.9 Hartvrlle was represented by G rald Domer w1th a baritone solo lim Espenschied bass solo and Dolores Espenschied with a clarinet solo l.lSlC At Canton Township on February 15 rn the En semble contest Hartville High School was repre sented by four groups a duet By the Bend of the Rrver by Calvin Kurtz and Mary Ellen Fulmer a trio consisting of Beverly Powell Norma Sarver and Viv an Werstler sang Rose Mane a sex tette with Mae Horsley Dorothy Stutzman Dorothy Watson Vivian Werstler Wanda Merkle and Betsy Cox sang Green Cathedral and a mixed oc GH In the hrgh school conte t at Mt Jrnon on April 5 a brass sextette played and Vivian Burgess was the proud donor with a French Horn solo In the National contest at Flint Mich from May 14 to May 17 Lo1s Espenschied received a suv r1or ratmg for a martmba solo The Sprmg Band Con ert was given on April 22 On May 10 at the County Tessmer Lois Espenschled lane E pens hr d and Gerald Domer represented Hartvrlle Und r the ex cellent direction of Mr Homer Borngardn r Hart ville can sincerely be proud of 1ts oand Contestants 40 tette consisting of Marjorie Phillips Beverly Powell Lo1s hspenschied Ruth Wertenberger Ferman Sla baugh Ralph Re1kOWSkY Louis Susco and Ernest Tessmer sang Annie Laurie A memorable thing happened that day All the ensembles recelved the same rating All were given excellent mlnus They were directed by Miss Eleanor Niswcrnder vocal music director . 3 ' ' ' ' ' ' 9 . 9 ' 1 . :c t ' . . i e ': e ' ' ' ' l. i ' ' .
