We, the Retrospect Staff, dedicate the 1960 Retrospect to the ideals of preparation, progress, and achievement. These three elements are an integral part of maturity; they are necessary to the consummate development of the individual. For this reason, they are highly emphasized at Hartsville High School. Preparation is necessary for a successful life if we are to meet the demands of our changing environment. Change does not necessarily mean progress, but progress involves a willingness to accept change if this change is beneficial. Achievement, our goal at Hartsville High School, is a result of progress, the principle by which we learn. Mrs. Porter discusses college requirements and qualifications with seniors Ellen Harden and Alice Reid. With a look of satisfaction, Judy Thompson marks on the production chart the books she has read. After meeting the necessary requirements of the National Honor Society, Keys Lewis is tapped by Belva Howie, Honor Society president. 15
