PHYSICALLY More energy is needed than it seems for knee-bends, one of the many exercises in the boys’ physical education class. Realizing that physical growth is important in the total educational program for each student, Hartsville High School strives to teach the care and proper development of the body. Through organized team sports and individual competition, we realize the importance not only of maturing in physical skills, but also of acquiring self-discipline. Our vital concern is to achieve a balanced alliance between the mind and the body.

. . . c co ui i b Mmlc fa fruJc cmzmMJi jftjf The ideal of service to one's fellow man is an integral part of education, for it is only through giving of oneself that true satisfaction comes. Because of this emphasis at Hartsville High School, we are now prepared to serve our school and our community more effectively. Sara Bennett and Gladys Parker assist the office staff in issuing books at the beginning of school. Janet Johnson, Ruth Kelley, and Annie Sue Watkins, assisted by Mrs. Odessa Henry, have the opportunity to use the knowledge gained in the commercial classes through the trainee program at Sonoco Products Company. Anna Andrews and Beverly Webb, who are called upon to assist in a community project, receive a contribution from Mr. John Easterling. 12
