HARTSVILLE HIGH As the architect lays brick upon brick according to his scheme and constructs an imposing edifice, so does the day by day routine of our school life build a groundwork for the future that we plan for ourselves. In the construction of the master plan for a year at high school, we can see the influence of many builders: our superintendent, our principal, faculty, classmates, parents, and finally the individual whose life is in the formative stage. The consummation of plans that have become working realities signifies Hartsville High today. Hck, in, ccn, eAa, “How much CaCI do we need?” asks chemistry students as Mr. Swords looks on. Mrs. Ulmer discusses Mexican life with Spanish students, Meg: Andrews and Naomi Kelly. Members of the carpentry class work hard to complete their project, building- the home of a Hartsville citizen.

INTELLECTUALLY Life is like an endless treasure chest, filled with success, love, peace, and happiness. This chest, however, demands a key to unlock its wealth. The key to life’s treasure is learning. At Hartsville High School we are able to attain the academic phase of learning in fields of mathematics, languages, social studies, and science. Here we are urged to put the key of learning to use in unlocking life’s great wealth. Geometry students, Garry King and Charles Hughes, watch closely as Mr. Southerland explains a theorem. Cecil Munn and Lucile Tyner listen intently while Mr. Tisdale demonstrates the use of equipment used in biology. Russell Watson takes advantage of his study hall time to look at his favorite magazine as Marilyn Newsome chooses a book for parallel reading. 8
