These two groups are the last to be graduated under the eleven year system which has prevailed until recently in South Carolina. The classes following this page Cthe Sopho- mores, the Freshmen, and the Eighth Cradeb will be graduated under the new twelve year plan. This plan was authorized in the spring of 1944 by the General Assem- bly of South Carolina and provided for the insertion of a new grade between the seventh and eighth grades of that time. Such a plan meant that in the year 1948 there would be a small graduating class and that the first pupils under the twelve year program would be graduated in 1949. Since the class of 1948 will be a very small one, it will not be possible for Tina Riwnosiauor to be published in that year. This being true, it is proper here to recognize this group of Juniors of 1947 as the rising Senior Class of 1948, the last class to be graduated under the eleven year plan. As we loolc baclc, we can point with pride to the accomplishments of many ol? our graduates who have achieved much in competition with the pupils from twelve year systems from other states. ln many cases, grad- uates from the Hartsville High School have entered colleges of the highest ranlt within and without the state and have done their Alma hdater credit. It is fitting to assume that under the twelve year plan the graduates ol 1949 and of the years to follow will have a better chance to compete with pupils from other schools where the twelve year plan has been in effect for years. An additional year should add to the emotional and intellectual maturity of our pupils, and the additional background should enable them to carry forward with greater ease and success. Thus we see the passing of an old era and the beginning of a new. VV e loolc bacliward with pride, and we loolt forward with confidence to greater achievement.
