THE RETROSPECT junior Honor Society The Junior Honor Society is one of the most active organizations in the Hartsville High School. It was founded March 14. 193 3. by the Student Council for the purpose of creating an enthusiasm for scholarship: of stimulating a desire for service: of promoting constructive leadership: and of developing character in the students of the High School. Election to this organization is both a recognition of attainment and a challenge to greater service and development. Membership in the Junior Honor Society comes through nominations made by the students and faculty and passed upon by the Student Council and the Faculty Advisory Committee. To be elected into the Society, a student must be a member of the Freshman or Sophomore class: but once having been elected, he continues to be a member though-out his Junior and Senior years The activities of the Junior Honor Society in the spring of 1933. consisted in organizing and electing officers. In the school year 193 3- 34 the Society adopted for its emblem a small golJ block ' H ”: it adopted a constitution: it designed and hung in the High School hall a chart showing the officers of the various school organizations: and it prepared a handbill contain ng information for the next year’s F reshmen. During the school year 1934-’35 the Society assisted in F:reshman Orientation in September and distributed the previously prepared handb.ils: it voted to continue these two activities next year: it voted to revise the chart: it established and successfully operated a stationery store, naming it The Green Counter ”: and it provided marshals for a Parent-Teacher Meeting. A big new project which the Junior Honor Society has under consideration for next year is the management of the Freshmen s special library..
