Junior Honor Society The Junior Honor Society was organized by the Student Council March 14, 1933. The object of this organization is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire for service; to promote constructive leadership; to develop character in the students of the Hartsville High School. Membership in the organization comes through nominations made by the students and faculty and passed upon by the Student Council and Faculty Advisory Committee. To be elected into the Society a student must be a member of the Freshman or Sophomore class, but once having been elected, membership continues throughout the Junior and Senior years. This year the Junior Honor Society has adopted for its emblem a small gold block “H”; it has adopted a constitution; and it has voted to prepare a handbill for the guidance of next year’s Freshmen and to assist in their orientation. All Girls’ League The All Girls’ League of the Hartsville High School was organized in October, 1931. Its membership is composed of all the girls in the school and its government is vested in an Executive Council composed of the officers of the League, the home room teachers, and the Dean of Girls. The purpose of the league is to create a feeling of unity among the girls; to develop the girl as a “whole girl”; to promote high scholarship and good conduct; to create a desire for service. Much progress has been made towards attaining these goals by a series of helpful programs contributed by the students and by Dr. Abby V. Holmes, formerly of the department of Health Education at Winthrop College, and by a number of practical projects undertaken by the girls. Student programs given from time to time offered many helpful suggestions on how to improve the school through self-improvement. Dr. Holmes gave three inspiring talks on problems relating to girls. The most interesting of the projects undertaken by the All Girls’ League have been in connection with the work of the Red Cross in Hartsville, the Christmas Anti-Tuberculosis Campaign and the campaign for raising funds for the Salvation Army. The following students served most efficiently as officers for 1933-1934: Maria Powell ........................................President Flora Coker ....................................Vice-President Victoria Allen ...........................Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Durrett ...............Student Council Representative Miss Helen Baker ......................................Sponsor Page Twenty-six
