Even though they practiced hard and fought to the end, they were defeated in their first two games. However, the loss was not discouraging and the girls continued their daily practice. The Sweethearts were very enthusiastic about the Tournament games in Orangeburg and proved to be good sports throughout their entire stay of three days. The last night which was Saturday, revealed much to the students of Hartsville High School, the town of Hartsville and the spectators—The Sweethearts of the Pee Dee were champions of the Class B Schools in South Carolina. Honor is to be paid to Mr. Timmerman, Mr. Crawford and Miss Pegues, coaches, for their interest and suggestions which spurred the girls on to their goal of a successful basketball season.
