A QJSHORA, tia.i..z.i..zii X ..Qyi....i.tl.i 7. 6 L E FOOT BALL Our 1923 foot ball year could hardly be called a banner season, due to the lack of experience of most of the players. At first glance it looked as though we could hardly win a game but due to the able coaching of Mr. Park and the support given by the pep organization our team show- ed unexpected strenght and we won six of our eleven games. The Squad was composed of the following: GANNER BETSON RIEDT LONG LEE CORNELIUS SIMS MITCHELL BATES VVALSHE LAVVS SIMONOVSKI VVOODS, TOM I BOSTIS VVOODS, WALTER BANKS LITTLE HENRY THE RECORD Hartshorne vs. Eufaula.-On Sept. 14 Mr. Park took the team to Eufaula for the opening game. VVe had only one week's practice and most of the boys were minus experience so we got trimmed 46-0. Hartshorne vs. Pittsburg.-After two weeks rest for the bruises of the Eufaula game September 28 found the team in' the best possible condition for Pittsburg. The visitors had the spirit but not the science and we won handily 52-0. Hartshorne vs. Keota.-Keota came with a good reputation and our boys were not so confident but they soon struck their stride and we cllalk- ed up our second victory. Score, 32-0. ...15-my.15-V.-E.,tt!-.I-5.-v.!n..!....!5 -.nuggylgggqll I-1.55-.gp-n-nnnmvggg mm-.nm--pq-mmf nnim im iuninninminmimiipiuin nn' f ' ' uininiin iiiniaiuiinilininin' ' ' 'Q' 'n' ' '

. N stltisilqfito R , t , . .Q , . . X1 Hartshorne vs. Caddo.-NVe played Caddo on our gridiron and found we had tackled a worthy foe. The features of this game were touchdowns by Laws, right tackle, who blocked a punt, and Sicora, left guard, who intercepted a pass. The other touchdown was on straight foot ball. Score, 19-0. Hartshorne vs. Poteau.-On November 19 we played our old rival on our field. Half hack Lee was out and our back field couldn't get started until the last half. It was too late then to win but we finally pushed over a touch down. Score 19-6, favor of Poteau. Hartshorne vs. Atoka.-NVe suffered our third defeat in this game due to meeting a larger and more experienced team. The score was 2-1-0. Hartshorne vs. Stigler.-This game was played but the State High School Association ordered it forfeited to Hartshorne when it later de- veloped Stigler had played an ineligible man. 1 Hartshorne vs. Haileyville.--The team journeyed to our sister city Armistice Day accompanied by a goodly number of towns people. This was one of the quietest games ever played with Haileyville. The game was spirited and Haileyville was pointed to win but we took their measure to the tune of 19-0. T A n Hartshorne vs. Heavener.---On November 16 the team went to Heavener where they were defeated by a score of 46-0. The defeat was expected due to the size of the Heavener players. Hartshorne vs. Quinton.-On November 23 Quinton came to give us the last victory of the season. The Quinton team played bravely but were defeated by a score of 37-6. Hartshorne vs Checotah.-F or the closing game of the season we journeyed to Checotah where a game was played on a snow covered 'grid- iron. The game was hotly contested but Checotah ran up a score of 15-0. Better luck next year.
