Q-zmn cAiound the A OothL With many people of different nationalities enrolled at Hartnell College, it is only logical that our 1956 La Reata should carry an international theme. Students from many countries around the globe come to our shores and to our college in quest of higher education and to learn American ways. Many of our students will return to their homes abroad and some will make a new home here. China, Japan, Iran, the Phil¬ ippine Islands, Germany, England, regardless of their birthplace, they have shown them¬ selves to be exemplary citizens of our college and nation.

MR. LOUIS ERIS r )e(lienti()tt The Associated Students of Hartnell College respectfully dedicate this yearbook, La Reata, to Mr. Louis Eris. Educator, father, sports enthusiast, he is all of that. He came to teach when the college was part of Salinas Union High School and stayed on to see the college acquire its own campus. In twenty-seven years of teaching at Hartnell, he has shared his sorrows and joys with hundreds of stu¬ dents. Quick to smile and lend a helping hand but still able to admonish an erring student, he is a standout in the scholastic world. Of his many special interests, sports remain foremost with him. Athletic teams have come and gone from our campus but winners or losers, he was behind them all the way. Race, creed, background, he only stressed that they be either good winners or gracious losers. To Hartnell’s own Louis Eris, this book is gratefully dedicated.
