In opening with a devastating 33-13 win over the Taft Cougars, the Panthers played their best ball of the season. Fresno then eked out a one-point win, 13-12, in a Shrine-sponsored contest at Fresno. Back home again the Maroon and Gold was trounced by the classy Stock- ton College outfit, and things were looking bad for the team. Coach Elliott Wilson snapped the squad out of the doldrums, and they fought to a 19-13 win over San Mateo. “Ye Olde Gaboon” came back to Hartnell after a 27-7 Homecoming Day win over Menlo, and the Panthers made it three in a row by defeating Modesto, 13-12. On Armistice Day, City College of San Francisco hosted the locals and took a 20-0 victory. Climax of the season came when Hartnell played a beautiful defensive game, holding the league champions, Monterey Peninsula College, to 12 points, but were unable to counter and dropped the tilt, 12-0. Uppercrust of Dogpatch jrdnmmqments No annual such as La Reata can be published without the co-operation of many individuals who have aided the staff. For instance, without the assistance of President John B. Lemos, the faculty, and office staff, few of the group pictures which necessitated students leaving classwork could have been taken. Two photographers, Hurl Swartz and Bob Crabbe, were likewise very co¬ operative. Mr. Swartz took the sophomore pictures while Mr. Crabbe and the Salinas Californian generously contributed many football pictures. All other pictures are by the student staff photographers. El Camino Press, printers and lithographers in Salinas, were helpful with many suggestions. Covers are by the S. K. Smith Company of Los Angeles and the binding is the work of Bookbinders Company, Los Angeles. To these and many others who have helped the staff, thank you. The Staff What! No casualties yet?
